Aquatic Field Technician

Full-Time Position with Benefit Package

Onterra, LLC, based near Green Bay, WI, seeks a qualified individual to join our team as a full-time aquatic field technician. This entry-level position includes comprehensive training and opportunities for professional advancement. Onterra specializes in lake management planning and serves clients across northern, central, and southern Wisconsin. Our clients include municipalities, state and federal agencies, lake districts, conservation organizations, and lake associations. Our services encompass comprehensive lake management planning, aquatic invasive species assessments, diagnostic/feasibility studies, and aquatic plant management planning.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  • At least a Bachelor of Science Degree in biology, chemistry, or natural resource-related field 
  • Interest in aquatic ecology 
  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Enjoys working outside

Additional qualifications that are beneficial but not required include: 

  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) 
  • Background in water resources, particularly water quality and aquatic plant identification/survey techniques 

Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work effectively as a part of a team, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. They must also be willing to travel for two to four days a week during the open-water field season. Aquatic field technicians do not work weekends.

Responsibilities

Our aquatic field technicians perform a range of duties, including: 

  • Leading several types of aquatic vegetation surveys 
  • Collecting water quality samples
  • Mentoring students participating in our internship program
  • Analyzing data, writing reports, and completing other office tasks during non-fieldwork periods 

Compensation & Benefits

The starting salary is $43,000 or higher, depending on experience.
