Building & Grounds Supervisor

The Department of Health Services (DHS), Northern Wisconsin Center (NWC) is recruiting for a Building & Grounds Supervisor. This position will work Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  There may occasionally be times when early morning or evening hours are necessary.  

NWC is a short-term assessment and treatment facility for individuals who have an intellectual disability as well as a mental illness and aggressive or challenging behaviors. The programming is designed to prepare people to live successfully in a community setting. NWC is one of three centers for individuals with intellectual disabilities managed by DHS. Position Summary

As the Building and Grounds Supervisor, you will oversee the NWC grounds and maintenance team whose work includes the repair and maintenance of all physical plant buildings, grounds, equipment, and vehicles.  Additional responsibilities include: 

  • Administering the computerized preventive corrective maintenance system and records. 
  • Maintaining Life and Fire Safety systems and records. 
  • Assisting the Buildings and Grounds Superintendent with personnel issues, required reports, budget development, code, and regulatory compliance. 
  • Interacting with project contractors and other state/local agency officials in the pursuance of project quality and completion. 

Salary Information

The starting pay is $31.00-$35.00 per hour (approximately $64,400-$72,800 per year) plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 81/04.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by NWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

**This position requires the ability to drive a State vehicle. In order to become authorized to drive a State vehicle, you must meet the requirements for the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle policy, which are: 

  • Must have a valid driver's license;
  • Must have minimum of two years licensed driving experience;
  • Must be 18 years of age.

Additionally, your driving record MUST NOT reflect any of the following conditions: 

  • Three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years;
  • Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the past 12 months;
  • Suspension or revocation of driver's license.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all the following:

  • Experience performing building, mechanical, and grounds maintenance and repair.
  • Experience requisitioning materials, equipment, and/or supplies. 
  • Experience using a computerized preventative maintenance program such as FacilityDude.   
  • Experience scheduling repair work, movement of equipment, furniture, supplies, etc. (e.g., providing consultation and recommendations on work plans, managing multiple/conflicting priorities, etc.).

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience working with complex building systems (e.g. heating, cooling and refrigeration systems, electrical systems, fire prevention systems, etc.).
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role (e.g. interviewing, training, assigning and reviewing work, providing performance feedback, etc.).
  • Experience using an electronic work order system and determining work priorities.
  • Experience interpreting and applying state and federal codes and standards.
