Wet 'n Wild Park Operations Intern

The Park Operations Intern will assist the department director with administrative tasks for the Rides, Admissions, Aquatics, Park Services, Security and other park departments. 

The intern will be introduced to many aspects of theme/water park operations, from personnel management to day-to-day processes and office administration. The intern will be part of the planning, preparing, and executing a full theme park season. This position will also ignite the development of leadership, communication, and management skills by collaborating with department management, leadership, employees and guests. 

Specific projects and assignments of the internship may be customized to meet the needs, skills, and interests of the incumbent’s field of study.

The daily work schedule for this position will vary, depending on weekly activities and special events; however, the selected candidate for this role should expect to work approximately 20-40 hours per week, including morning, night, weekend and holiday hours when appropriate.

Wet 'n Wild - Park Operations Assistant

 

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

 

Supervisory Duties:

  • Assist with the daily supervision of the park operations team and all other assigned departments
  • Lead by example, attitude, and as a representation of Wet ‘n Wild Emerald Pointe core values
  • Act as an approachable mentor and coach to all assigned team members
  • Ensure compliance with company and industry best practices, policies, and procedures to create a safe and productive environment for colleagues and guests.
  • Become knowledgeable of performing the essential duties of all assigned park operations positions and backfill these positions when needed
  • Participate in all aspects of supervision of assigned employees, including hiring, orientation, training, performance coaching, and discipline.
  • Ensure that all required meal and other breaks are being given in accordance with North Carolina law
  • Ensure daily sign-in sheets are completed and submitted each day
  • Assist with team scheduling and timekeeping activities

 

Departmental Duties:

  • Demonstrate a continued and unwavering interest and desire to learn the ins-and-outs of park management
  • Lead and assist in the preseason and ongoing training and evaluation of park employees, Ride attendants, Ride Operators, Lifeguards, Park Services and Cashiers.
  • Assist in organizing, planning, implementation and oversight of assigned departments
  • Lead and assist with safety program training execution for team members
  • Always act as a professional role model when interacting with other park employees and/or guests
  • Provide excellent customer service by supporting park standards and maintaining a positive public image by addressing questions and concerns from staff, patrons, participants, and parents immediately
  • Ensure documents, including training logs, downtime occurrence reports, checklists and employee records, are accurate and maintained per policy.
  • Provide administrative support for the Operations departments, including purchasing and budget tracking.
  • Collaborate with Supervisors to provide daily management, personnel, and operational updates.
  • Assist with events, programs and facility operations
  • Complete any special projects or operation studies that are assigned by park leadership
  • Establish supports and maintain collaborative efforts with internal and external customers and organizations
  • All other duties assigned by leadership

 

Education and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program, preferably from an accredited college or university in Business Management, Hospitality, Sport Management, Recreation, or related discipline
  • Minimum of one year of related work experience, preferably in a theme park, resort, hotel, or hospitality-related field is highly desired
  • 1+ years of previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Must successfully complete the Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Training Program before becoming a lifeguard at Wet ‘n Wild Emerald Pointe. All Lifeguard candidates will be required to obtain the Ellis Lifeguard Certification instructional handbook and pass all certification requirements. (Swim 200 yards doing front crawl or breaststroke; Retrieve 10-lb brick from 11 ft of water; and tread water without hands for 2 minutes)

 

Language: Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English; Spanish or other bilingual language skills are a plus.

 

Requirements: 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age to comply with North Carolina Child Labor Laws
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, open to close
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from your scheduled shift
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Ability to comply with all uniform policies
  • Must possess exceptional customer service skills, with an ability to resolve questions, problems, issues, and concerns in a positive and professional manner
  • Must possess a safety-oriented mindset and be fully committed to enforcing all DOSH, IROC, and all other regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations, meet the demands of constant deadlines and coordinate multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow direction, multi-task, and work as part of a fast-paced team

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for majority of the workday
  • Ability to remain sedentary for periods of time, while using a computer
  • Ability to frequently stoop, twist, kneel, bend, squat, or reach above shoulders
  • Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 40 pounds or more
  • Ability to climb or descend stairs for some of the rides and attractions

 

Working Conditions:

  • This role will predominantly be based outdoors in the park environment
  • Constant exposure to the variable outside temperatures, including high heat, cold, direct sun, humidity, dust, rain, snow, ice, and other weather conditions
  • Subject to frequent interruptions, constant repetitive motion, high noise levels, flashing lights, and heavily populated environments
