Deputy Counsel (CDI) - ICC Dispute Resolution Services

As a leading international arbitral institution, the ICC International Court of Arbitration attracts a growing caseload from all over the world. The cases are administered by specialised teams with knowledge and experience of the major legal and cultural traditions. Each team is headed by a Counsel and includes two or three Deputy Counsel.

We are currently recruiting a Deputy Counsel for SICANA, Inc., our case management team based in New York dealing primarily with cases from the North American region.

The role

The role involves both legal and administrative tasks, including:

  • Reviewing and processing requests for arbitration and other documents filed by parties, arbitrators, and others during arbitration proceedings;
  • Preparing agendas (memoranda) briefing the ICC International Court of Arbitration on decisions it is required to take;
  • Substitute Counsel at sessions of the ICC International Court of Arbitration when required.;
  • Written correspondence and telephone communications with parties and arbitral tribunals concerning all aspects of case management;
  • Responding to general queries about the ICC arbitral process by telephone and in writing;
  • Monitoring the financial aspects of arbitrations handled by the team;
  • Preparation of notes or articles for publication and representing the ICC International Court of Arbitration and its Secretariat at seminars and conferences.

Your profile

Do not hesitate to apply if you:

  • Are a recently qualified lawyer with professional experience in a legal environment. A formal legal qualification (i.e., Bar exam or equivalent) is not essential if you can demonstrate sufficient legal training and experience in international arbitration international and/or commercial law.
  • You are well organised, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and are able to work effectively in a multicultural team.
  • Oral and written English at a native speaker level is essential, along with proficiency in Spanish.

Contract type and duration: Permanent contract, full time

Salary: $103,000 per annum (firm) + superior benefits, including company-paid medical, dental, and vision plans, a company-sponsored 401(k) plan with a 6% match after the 90th day of employment, five weeks paid vacation per year, 10 paid sick days annually, and paid legal holidays.
