CE Manager - Business and Industry

Summary

The Continuing Education (CE) Manager – Business and Industry oversees the development and administration of business and industry courses and educational pathways (e.g., business, CDL, computers, engineering/industrial technology, professional certifications, etc.) and relevant industry-based certification programs, community-based education, noncredit education courses, and training for adults and students looking to pursue learning outside of a degree. In this role, the Manager will supervise and lead a team of individuals tasked with creating and managing new and existing programs. Through this supervision, the Manager will oversee planning, scheduling, and budgetary operations. The Manager will provide and apply administrative and technical knowledge while working independently or as part of a team to complete division projects or grant-related tasks. The Manager will report to the Director or CE Division Dean. This position is key to attaining additional industry and community partnerships, developing long-range goals for a greater presence in the service area, and participating in state initiatives and committees as they pertain to the job.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Supervises and distributes work to support staff in order to implement arrangements and ensure compliance with stated schedules and commitments of assigned programs.
  • Coordinates the planning, development, marketing, and implementation of business and industry continuing education workforce certificates and certifications, and educational pathways that position students for well-paying careers and/or provide upskilling training opportunities.
  • Develops new business and industry workforce courses and programs that include or prepare students for obtaining industry-based certifications and/or credentials of value.
  • Manage the development and implementation of contract training and workforce grants to support the educational and training needs of business partners and students as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board guidelines, licensure requirements and other state and federal regulations.
  • Recruits and interviews instructors, negotiates salaries and may observe and evaluate instructional performance and advise instructors regarding improvements.
  • Provides administrative and technical support for special projects and division tasks to support the operational needs of a continuing education division.
  • Performs necessary administrative duties such as correspondence and reports, including summary reports of individual programs, analyzes enrollment trends and actively participates in long-range planning for future program needs.
  • Participates in local professional, community and statewide committees and events to represent the college.
  • Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change based on the needs of the department and the institution.

 

Required Education:

Associate's degree required
Bachelor's degree preferred

 

 

 

Required Experience:

Experience in non-credit education (3 years)

Development of business and industry courses and programs (3 years)

Experience working with Chambers of Commerce and/or Workforce Boards (3 years)

 

Required Skills & Abilities:

Proficient in standard office procedures to include using standard office equipment and technologies (e.g., computers, applicable computer software, printers, scanners, etc.).

Skilled in continuing education course and program development, planning, implementation, evaluation, curriculum identification and development, and proposal writing.

Skilled in effective and accurate verbal and written communication skills.

Skilled in community outreach to include building and maintaining relationships with professionals, community leaders, and other stakeholders throughout the college’s service area.

Skilled in providing instructor and classroom support.

Familiar with project management practices.

Knowledgeable of strategic management and planning as a means of resource allocation.

Familiar with the development, monitoring, and assessment of program budgets in coordination with the division Dean.

Familiar with industry-based certifications to support student and stakeholder educational and training needs and student completion.

Familiar with higher education functional areas, such as admissions, student services, and financial services, to support students and stakeholders.
