Seasonal Stewardship Assistant
The Stewardship Assistant is a 30hr/week, 10 week position with flexible start and end dates. The job is based in New Boston, NH with occasional opportunities for remote work.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Stewardship Assistant assists PLC’s Stewardship Specialist with various land stewardship tasks in the field and in the office. The Stewardship Assistant may also be asked to assist with land protection projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities will include conducting annual property monitoring visits, preparation of property management plans, installation of boundary signs and painting of survey blazes, invasive species control and habitat management work, trail maintenance, inventorying and removal of tree stands and hunting blinds, map making using GIS software, and other stewardship and land protection tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have some combination of the following skills and experience:
−Must live locally or have pre-arranged housing
−Must have a reliable source of transportation
−A working understanding of the southern New Hampshire landscape, including natural communities and natural and land use history
−Experience navigating in the woods with GPS and/or map & compass
−Experience with ArcGIS, including basic map-making and analysis
−Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
−Good oral and written communications skills
−Good face-to-face interpersonal skills
−Ability to work alone on assigned tasks after training
