Position: Communications Director (full time)
The Church: Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (OSLC) is a vibrant Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCA)
congregation west of Milwaukee in the Lake Country area. The congregation of 1,400 members averages a weekly attendance of 400 in one mid-week and three weekend worship services.
Description: This is a proactive role that works with all ministry areas and serves as the person people look to for communication planning and execution. The Communications Director focuses on assisting leaders in ministry and mission engagement. This position is instrumental in worship design and production. The Communication Director understands all aspects of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and its ministries to create effective communications for pastors, staff, council, congregation, and community. Priorities include developing Our Savior’s mission/brand to share the love of Christ to transform lives, creating community connections, and fostering engagement in the ministries of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Skills & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Graphic Design, Marketing, Business, or related field or 3 + years’ experience in related positions.
- Technical Proficiency: video projection and livestream, video editing, social media, web design, graphic design, editing, writing skills, and musical notation. Current platforms include: Google, Microsoft Suite, Mail Chimp, Media ProPresenter, Canva, Square Space, FB, Instagram, Church Center and related apps.
- Communication: Gifted at communicating clearly, creatively, and effectively. Good listener, open to feedback, and not defensive. Excellent written, design, and oral communication skills.
- Relational: Relates well to all kinds of people, builds effective relationships, and thrives in a team-based ministry. Flexible and supportive. Values learning and skill development.
- Worship Design: Participation in worship services, experience in worship leadership and production.
- Workflow: Ability to work efficiently with multiple projects, deadlines, and interruptions. Organized and self-motivated. Project management skills and ability to meet deadlines. Proactive.
- Spiritual Integrity: Commitment to Our Savior’s vision and mission. Passion for communicating the Gospel. Views this position as a ministry of the congregation. Collaborative and supportive of ministry staff and congregational members.
Responsibilities
General Communications
- Design and execute communication strategy, storytelling, and branding. Ensure consistency in messaging.
- Partner with pastors, ministry staff and leaders in developing communication strategies and content development.
- Determine most effective communication strategies with focus on engagement and outreach.
- Manage content development, copywriting and editing for all church communications including bulletin, website pages, social media, brochures, emails, videos, etc.
- Manage workflow and priorities for design and production.
- Manage graphic design projects and video productions with paid and volunteer artists.
- Storytelling: arranging for photography and video at ministry events. Edit and archive for storytelling and communication.
Worship Service Communications
- Participate in creative planning sessions in developing and writing message series themes, supporting graphics, video, and other custom elements.
- Work closely with the worship team and coordinate with pastors and music director in supporting worship services through production and of video, graphics, and worship slides.
- Supervise and support worship tech volunteers and interns: recruit, train, and schedule for worship services.
- Video and audio recording, live stream, editing and posting of worship services.
- Produce print and digital worship bulletins.
- Copyright & Licensing - maintain copyright & licensing standards.
- Create communication strategies and content to promote worship services and message series.
Web and Social Media
- Expand OSLC online presence integrating web, mobile, and social media.
- Manage ongoing social media interaction and messaging in partnership with pastors and ministry staff.
- Daily social media posts for worship, ministries, events; analyze data to determine effectiveness
- Update and maintain website for worship, staff, ministries, small groups, programs & events; analyze data to track engagement.
- Design and implement marketing and advertising initiatives directed at the local community.
- Support and maintain safety and professional standards for all social media accounts of the congregation Manage and maintain congregational media release policies and documents.
Video Production
- Editing worship and event video for posting on social media.
- Assist ministry leaders in various video projects as requested.
- Develop creative process, directing, recruiting, producing, and distributing custom videos.
Ministry Teams and Hospitality
- Small Groups & Ministries - connected with ministry & small group leaders to update information, promote programs and events.
- Congregational Campaigns – work with pastors and ministry staff in designing and creating content for stewardship, evangelism, worship, and other campaigns. Print and Digital.
- Weekly Email – inform congregation of worship, ministries, prayers, events, small groups.
- Weekly Announcements - print, verbal, and video; create with input from pastors, staff, council, small groups, ministries & congregation.
- Displays – work with Parish Administrator, ministry & small group leaders to promote worship, ministries and events at the Outreach Center, Gathering Area, and Welcome Center
- Mentor, equip and utilize ministry volunteers.
- Hospitality and support for members and visitors of the congregation.
Community
- Publicity/Advertising - create and schedule weekly newspaper listings, events, and news releases.
- Maintain digital outdoor signage board.
- Seek opportunities for advertising, promotion, and networking in the community.
Other
- Software -updating and training as needed
- Technical resource for office equipment and software.
- Performs other reasonable and related duties as assigned.
Compensation
40 hours per week: Sunday – Thursday. Flexible, centered around a 9 a.m. – 3 pm workday. Sundays generally 7:00 am-12:30 pm. Includes work on Christian holidays and special church events. This is not a remote position. Benefits package included: pto, continuing education, medical and dental insurance, and contribution to retirement plan.
Rate based on experience.
