All-Akron Student Engineering Program Coordinator

Position: Graduate Assistant/ Co-op

Job Title: All-Akron Student Engineering Program Coordinator 

Division/ Department: Akron Waterways Renewed

Reports to: AWR Program Manager, Joshua Moore

Location: Akron, OH

Salary: $22 - $26 per hour

Type of Position:  24 - 32 Hours/week, Normal working Hours 8 am - 5 pm including Saturdays

G. Stephens, Inc. (GSI) is a firm that provides project and construction management services including scheduling and cost estimating services to clients throughout Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. We are seeking an experienced and energetic individual to join our diverse team to manage our clients’ most high-profile student project in association with the University of Akron.

The selected candidate will have the luxury to work with the All-Akron Student Engineering Program (AASEP), which is designed to provide practical educational experiences, expose students to opportunities in work shadowing, provide hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) related fields, and immerse students in paid internships in the Akron area! The program, which is housed within the City of Akron’s Akron Waterways Renewed! (AWR) project, is designed to provide students interested in pursuing STEM careers with an opportunity to participate with various designated engineering professional companies and organizations in the city. 

JOB RECEIVED:

The candidate will be responsible for all activities, design, reporting and measuring metrics for the All-Akron Student Engineering Program. 

The selected candidate will have to work with Akron Waterways Renewed! (AWR) to provide students interested in pursuing STEM careers with an opportunity to participate in a paid internship with one of the areas professional services organizations. 

The All-Akron Student Engineering Program (AASEP) is designed to expose students to opportunities in work shadowing, provide hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) related fields, and immerse students in paid internships in the Akron area! Through this we are creating an environment that strengthens the powers of education, experience, and employment for our students as well as encouraging and 

SUPERVISION GIVEN

The coordinator, during peak/busy seasons, temporary and seasonal help will be allotted to assist with projects during this time. If/ when this occurs, the coordinator shall provide clear guidance, expectations, and timelines to the assigned support staff

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

Including but not limited to:

  • General company office work
  • Assisting AASEP Manager on All-Akron Student Engineering Program activities
    • General office work
    • Soft skills training and implementation workshops for high school students
      • Maintain accurate workshop data, including attendance rosters, evaluations, and other reporting documents.
      • Administer surveys at workshops to support the data collection requirements of funding agencies.
      • Aid in on-going program development and stay current with curriculum updates by staying in contact with program Director, attending training sessions, participating in peer reviews, and providing feedback.
      • Co-facilitate occasional small and large group learning opportunities with additional content as determined by program director.
      • Attend student outings when necessary.
  • Oversite of high school students during internship period
  • Assisting Marketing & Communication Specialist
    • General office work
    • Development/review of Marketing materials
    • Updating Social media sites
    • Development, review, and implementation of community outreach events
    • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITIES

  • Microsoft Suite
  • MS Access
  • Ability to collaborate with Architectural, Engineering, Planning and Construction Management Partners
  • Ability to work with High School Students, Administrators and Staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively with local government officials.
  • Effective communication both written and oral
  • Knowledge of program management
  • High degree of flexibility
  • Knowledge of STEM programming and activities
  • Ability to work weekends.

SUGGESTED TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience in public speaking and presentation skills
  • Well Organized
  • Good listener
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365,
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Proficient in English, however Spanish fluency is a plus.

For consideration, the candidate MUST maintain a valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation.

EDUCATION

Master student or 2nd semester Senior level bachelor’s student in the following degree fields: Education, Management, Engineering
