Manufacturing Laboratory Technician – mAbs 1st shift

Position Summary

The desired candidate will perform tasks in a GMP laboratory setting involving upstream processes (large scale bioreactors, centrifugation, and filtration) along with downstream processes (chromatography, ultrafiltration, and nanofiltration). The position will be primarily focused on downstream processes and the execution of tasks associated with downstream process needs. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining current records in accordance with GMP guidelines involving the production of monoclonal antibody (mAb). A successful candidate will exhibit curiosity and a willingness to learn, adapt with the needs of the team, and follow all safety guidelines implemented by Zoetis.

Hours: 1st shift, 6:00am – 2:30pm / 7:15am – 3:45pm. 5 days per week (Monday – Friday) / 8-hour shifts.

Weekend work may be required for this position to support manufacturing needs.

 

Position Responsibilities

Perform processes and operate equipment required for large-scale monoclonal antibody (mAb) production campaigns.

 

Employee Responsibilities:

  • Support large-scale biological production campaigns for GMP by performing:
    • Aseptic purification of mammalian cultures
    • Operation of bioreactors/fermenters, tangential flow filtration (TFF), centrifugation, chromatography, and ultra-purification processes
    • Cleaning and steam-in-place activities for equipment
  • Maintain equipment and problem solve as needed.
  • Understand, follow, and accurately complete process documentation to maintain a high level of product quality and a GMP culture.
  • Understand and follow safety policies.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and personnel from other departments to support manufacturing process.

 

Education and Experience

High school degree or equivalent is required. 

 

The ideal candidate would possess:

  • BS in Biological sciences or a related field
  • Previous experience in large-scale production or laboratory scale
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize work, think critically, and take initiative.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as work independently with minimal supervision when needed.

Preference will be given to candidates with relevant experience in biological production, aseptic manufacturing, or in a regulated environment, or to those candidates with a B.S. in a science related field.

 

Technical Skills and Competencies Required

Functional skills:

  • Ability to read and follow written directions.
  • Ability to complete basic calculations.

  • Ability to function independently when required.

 

Technical skills:

  • Basic mechanical skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot.
  • Knowledge of the metric system

 

Desirable skills:

  • Familiarity with mammalian cell culture practices and techniques
  • Fundamental understanding of bioreactors/fermenters and/or downstream purification techniques
  • Basic understanding of biological and chemical principles
  • Experience with computers and various software (Unicorn, DeltaV, SAP)
  • Experience within a regulated GMP environment

 

Physical Position Requirements

Exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, noise, live steam, temperature fluctuations, biohazards, continuous standing and lifting to a maximum of 50 lbs.
