Biological Science Laboratory Assistant
This position prepares for and assists/supervises activities in the Biological Science Laboratories; makes solutions; prepares instruments for labs; sets up for Biological Science Lab classes; supervises student activities in the Biological Science Center; assists in the maintenance of laboratory areas and the greenhouse; and works with chemical reagents as well as plant and animal cultures.

Using mathematical calculations to prepare reagents and assists students in problems Biological Science;

Observe and detect signs of hazards and obstacles that may cause injury to students and staff in the Science Center or group labs.
Ability to work daytime, evening and Saturday hours as assigned.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)
Follows given laboratory procedures and instructions by the Biology Lab Supervisor or the course instructor; assists in conducting and explaining any or all experiments in Biological Science Laboratories; and tutors students.
During times scheduled in the Biological Science Center: prepares labs; greets and assists students in individual lab exercises; answers questions concerning software and other study materials available in the Biological Science Center; administers laboratory exams; maintains Biological Science Center attendance records; supervises group labs as needed; and supervises individual and group work in the Biological Science Center.
Understands, obeys, and enforces all safety and health regulations applicable in a science laboratory including state and federal regulations concerning hazardous chemicals, infectious organisms, and blood borne pathogens; assembles, disassembles, and cleans the equipment and materials needed for individual and group laboratory experiments, including focusing microscope slides using a compound microscope; and prepares laboratory media and standard/special reagents for labs including the necessary calculations to prepare a reagent of specified molarity, normality, or percentage composition.
Supervises student work personnel in the maintenance of an orderly, clean environment in the laboratory; operates, maintains, adjusts, and explains the use of equipment used in the Biological Science Laboratories; maintains plant and animal cultures; performs dissections; makes supplemental materials/reagents; assists in record keeping and monitoring the inventory of supplies, specimens, and equipment used in the science laboratories; identifies needs of, orders, and submits requisitions for approval with input from faculty; interacts and communicates with students, faculty, and staff while performing duties; fulfills student and institutional needs by maintaining a work schedule assigned by the Science Center Supervisor; and participates in required training.
