Children's Naturalist
Children’s Naturalist - Part-Time
Rate: $11.00/hour – starting rate based on prior experience and education
Location: Children’s Schoolhouse, Kirtland Hills, OH 44060
Position Description:
Under the direction of the Schoolhouse Interpretive Manager, the part-time Children’s Interpretive Naturalist plans, organizes, coordinates and carries out a variety of educational programs and activities relating to natural history and resources, the environment, conservation or wildlife management specifically for children.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Creates and presents educational programs to schools and the public.
- Assists with planning, set-up, and operation of special events.
- Provides care to small educational animals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, environmental education, or related field or equivalent experience required.
- 1-2 years prior experience working with and/or teaching children preferred.
Position Requirements:
- Knowledge of natural & cultural history.
- Knowledge of working with children of all ages.
- Ability to be creative, flexible, well organized, energetic, and to relate to children.
- Skilled in public speaking in front of groups of various sizes.
- Skilled in communication, including written, oral, and listening.
- Skilled in customer service and interpersonal communication with the ability to interact professionally with all types of people.
- Proficiency in computer software programs including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Variable work schedule, 24-28 hours per week, 28 hours per week in the summer months.
- May be required to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Must possess a valid drivers’ license and insurable on the Agency’s liability policy. Background check required.
