Community Service Officer

If you have a passion for serving the community and are interested in supporting a team that is committed to making a positive impact, we invite you to join the Maplewood Police Department, a well-respected law enforcement agency, as a full-time Community Service Officer (CSO).  Our full-time CSO performs work as a uniformed non-sworn officer to assist the department in assignments; assists other department staff in routine department functions; carries out animal control functions; responds to nonemergency calls, parking reinforcement and completion of reports.

This is a 40-hour per week position--with a variety of shifts available. Ideal candidate will have experience providing high-quality customer service, experience with animal control, and a desire to serve the community. Our program is specifically designed to train and promote CSO's to Police Officers.

Applicants for this position will, at a minimum, be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate, possess a valid driver's license, complete detailed reports, conduct investigations, pass a law enforcement background, pre-employment medical and psychological exams.  

***Need not apply if you have applied for a Police Officer or CSO position with the City of Maplewood in that past 12 months.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Patrols the City, takes non-essential calls for service, assists officer, and performs animal control functions.
  • Completes administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Assists with community outreach events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum & Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota driver's license or equivalent out-of-state license.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be enrolled in a POST eligible degree program or POST eligible within 2 years
  • Public/customer service experience or law enforcement-related experience or activities preferred
