Job Summary

This position is located in the Environmental Data Quality unit and exists to provide secondary data review for the MPCA air laboratory and support the maintenance of the quality system. The position helps to ensure the accuracy of testing performed on ambient air samples by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency or for the MPCA. This function is to ensure federal requirements are met for analyzing particulate and lead samples and that agency requirements are met for air toxics samples. This position assists with the implementation, maintenance, and documentation of the quality system for the MPCA laboratory.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Conservation, Biology, Chemistry, or related field and 2 years of professional experience conducting professional-level environmental protection or pollution control. Experience must include assessment of data quality, data management and the use of analytical laboratory instrumentation.

OR

Three 3 years professional-level experience conducting professional-level environmental protection or pollution control. Experience must include assessment of data quality, data management and the use of analytical laboratory instrumentation.

All candidates must have:

Ability to critically review, assemble, document, and summarize information and data; communicate data results, independently complete assignments in a timely manner; and mentor and serve as a team member.

Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, collaboration skills, customer service skills, and planning/organization skills sufficient to perform senior-level professional work.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will not sponsor applicants for work visas. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience assessing, measuring, and documenting the validity, reliability, and completeness of complex environmental data sets.

Experience with analysis and data review of UHPLC, GC-MS, and ICP-MS laboratory data.

Knowledge of ambient air sampling and analysis methods.

Knowledge of state and federal air monitoring regulations.

Knowledge of laboratory quality assurance including quality assurance documentation and data quality objectives.

Ability to:

Work effectively with others and coordinate with individuals involved in diverse environmental programs and research and to establish and maintain productive and open communications with business partners and other staff members.

Critically review, document, and summarize information and data into comprehensive recommendations, reports, and presentations.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

Additional Requirements

Position duties may require travel but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position. Employees who may drive for state business will need their driver’s license checked prior to operating a state vehicle.
