Internship Project Duties:

The Intern in the Office of Procurement and Contracts will help with a critical need to research, compile and document data for a consistent and formal process of working with cooperatives for bidding, procurement and contract process.

The Office of Procurement and Contracts is offering an exciting opportunity for an Intern to learn the big picture view of the how procurement of contract administration helps the State of Kansas with operations. This intern will review and organize contracts for the department, compile and document data for a consistent and formal process of working with cooperatives for bidding, procurement and contract process. 

In order to obtain perspective and understanding of processes, this position will be required to become familiar with relevant statute, rule, and policy. In addition, this position will shadow Procurement Services staff. This position will be involved in various procurement related activities, including but not limited to: Proposal Evaluation Meetings, Agency Consultations, Contract Negotiations, Bid Reviews, and Administrative Appeals. Regular team meetings will be attended.

The Office of Procurement and Contracts welcomes applications from prospective undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate interns interested in procurement and supply chain. This position is a part time, paid (up to 999 hours per year combined) with flexibility of scheduling while being in office. The mentor program is popular with interns as they may be assigned or adopt one of our many professionals to learn and grow from. Professional development is offered to interns, along with local support to learn more about state government and the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • College student, majoring in Procurement, Supply Chain Logistics, Law, Finance, Business Administration, or related degree

Post Offer Requirement: 
State of Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate.  The successful applicant (even non-residents) must obtain a valid Kansas Certificate of Tax Clearance by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's website within 10 days of the date the applicant has been offered the employment position.  A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws. A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days. This is in accordance with Executive Order 2004-03.
