Training Specialist

OVERVIEW: Under the direction of the Director of Mental Health, the Training Specialist identifies training needs in programs, develops a training plan and training curriculum and delivers training to staff. This position coordinates internal and external trainers for in-person and virtual training, including recording and archiving sessions. This position applies knowledge of adult learning theory to training and identifies key metrics for measuring training effectiveness, aligning training results with SCH goals and metrics.
DUTIES:
- Conducts initial and ongoing needs assessment of departments/programs to identify training areas currently provided and those to be developed.
- Collaborates with agency leadership in identifying training needs.
- Develops and maintains a training plan for identified agency programs to ensure high quality services, best practices, etc. Works with Director to submit plans for approval as needed.
- Ensures training plan meets the standards and is consistent with COA accreditation and county/state contracts and regulations.
- Provides direct training to staff in identified areas as directed by agency leadership.
- Receives initial and ongoing training in identified curricula and delivers training to staff consistent with models to ensure fidelity.
- Researches curriculum actively and remains up to date on developments within the industry.
- Uses known education principles and stays up to date on new training methods and techniques.
- Assesses instructional effectiveness and determines the impact of training on employee skills.
- Gathers feedback from trainers and trainees after each educational session and incorporates in future trainings.
- Utilizes both in-person and electronic platforms to offer efficient and timely training, including recorded sessions.
- Researches identified training areas and develops a plan for delivering training to departments/programs staff.
- Supports consistency in components and curriculum trained across identified programs.
- Prepares printed and instructional/training materials and documentation required for tracking staff attendance.
- Prepares all aspects for training sessions to include, but not limited to, invitations, preparing space, training documentation, greeting attendees/trainer, etc. in person and on electronic platforms.
- Coordinates logistics (venue, budget, trainer, etc.) of trainings as needed.
- Works with Managers and Director regarding training budget and expenditures.
- Develops training flyers, invites, etc. for internal and external participants.
- Markets training to internal and external sources as needed.
- Participates in supervision, staff meetings, agency and other assigned meetings.
- May assist with training data entry into the HRIS.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
LOCATION: 2750 Sutterville Rd., Sacramento, CA. 95820
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
SALARY: $27.93 - $31.42 per hour, to start
QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years’ experience working in a social service setting serving diverse youth and families is required. At least one year of this experience must include coordination and direct training of staff.
Previous experience developing training curriculum and completing training needs assessments are highly desired. Previous experience delivering training in a group setting is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work or another behavioral or Social Science is highly desirable.
Driving is an essential function of this job. As such, employees in this position will be required to furnish their own vehicle to be used in the course of employment. A valid driver’s license and minimum insurance coverage is also required. Must be at least 21 years old.
