Postgraduate Position in Liver Vascular Biology (McConnell Lab)
Postgraduate Position in Liver Vascular Biology (McConnell Lab)
The lab is located in the Yale Liver Center and is focused on translational research in primary human cells and patient samples to discover novel inflammatory pathways in the liver. In particular, we focus on the role of platelets and their interactions with liver sinusoidal endothelial cells to cause hepatic inflammation and disease. The lab is seeking motivated, recent college graduates who would like to obtain advanced training in basic science research and to advance their career in medicine and/or biomedical research. This position is ideal for individuals looking to apply to graduate or medical school in 1 to 2 years. This is a full-time, paid position with insurance benefits, available for start on or about July 1, 2025.
- Training- The laboratory uses primary human cell and plasma isolation, next generation sequencing, advanced microscopy, and biochemical techniques to discover platelet-mediated inflammatory pathways in the liver sinusoid. While in the lab you will take the lead on advancing ongoing projects and acquire skills in patient-oriented research including interfacing with research coordinators to collect patient samples, primary human cell isolation, cell culture, real-time PCR, cell microscopy, and bulk RNA sequencing. You will also acquire investigative skills such as experimental design, data acquisition, data analysis, and publication.
- Mentoring- You will be mentored by Dr. Matthew McConnell during hands-on bench training, discussion of results, proper design of experiments, and manuscript preparation. Additionally, mentoring will be tailored depending upon your long-term career goals.
- Education- A bachelor’s degree in the sciences is required (e.g. premed or life sciences/biology). Prior experience working in a research lab is preferred.
The position is for 1-2 years. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. If you are interested in this position, please send (1) your CV, (2) a brief description of any previous research experience and (3) an unofficial transcript to matthew.mcconnell@yale.edu
