Job Summary
This posting will be used to fill two vacancies. One position is projected to end in December 2026 and the second will end in March 2027.
As an Auditor Intermediate at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), the position directly supports the agency's mission to enhance accountability, compliance, and operational excellence. The Auditor Intermediate position plays a critical role in conducting internal audits across the agency to ensure effective internal controls, operational efficiency, and compliance with applicable statutes, policies, and procedures. Working under limited supervision and with guidance from senior audit staff, the Auditor Intermediate ensures that documented controls are properly structured and implemented. The role further requires evaluating existing controls using sufficient and reliable evidence and ensuring that conclusions drawn from the test results are fully supported by this evidence. Successful candidates will have at least two years of experience in one of the following areas: operational or program audits, financial analysis or consulting, or business analysis or consulting. They must demonstrate strong attention to detail, critical thinking, analytical abilities, problem-solving skills, organizational capabilities, and effective time management. This position grants unrestricted access to agency activities, records, systems, property, and personnel to conduct thorough and impactful evaluations.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of professional experience conducting operational or IT audits, or financial/business analysis (*NOTE: A Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics, Business Administration/Management, or related field substitutes for one year of professional experience.)
Experience rapidly acquiring in-depth knowledge of unfamiliar operational, program, financial, technological, and regulatory domains, with a proven ability to document and analyze critical subject areas.
Experience assessing compliance with federal and state laws, statutes, and organizational policies.
Experience leveraging data analysis to identify trends and derive critical insights.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas, produce organized documentation, and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Experience recognizing areas for process enhancement and proposing practical, effective solutions
Effective interpersonal skills to build and maintain productive relationships with colleagues, management, and clients.

Preferred Qualifications
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration/Management, or a related field.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards, Institute of Internal Auditors Standards, and Internal Control Frameworks such as COSO/COBIT.
Experience assessing how processes/internal controls are structured and implemented to ensure they achieve desired outcomes effectively.
Experience creating thorough, well-structured documentation and effectively summarizing findings to support conclusions.
Experience conducting IT Audits or IT Business Analysis
Experience managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines in a structured and timely manner.
Proven ability to establish, develop, and maintain communication and strong working relationships with client contacts.
