AGENCY DESCRIPTION: Silence the Shame, Inc. (STS) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2017 by Shanti Das to destigmatize mental health, particularly in marginalized communities. STS aims to empower and educate communities about mental wellness. We envision a stigma-free, culturally competent world where mental wellness is universally embraced and prioritized. We collaborate with businesses, faith-based institutions, schools, and policymakers to promote suicide prevention and reduce health disparities. We deliver impactful mental health education to vulnerable populations through wellness seminars, community conversations, and self-care socials. Our diverse programs exemplify our commitment to reducing stigma and enhancing mental wellness in underserved communities.
PROGRAM SPECIALIST – YOUTH & FAMILY PROGRAMS
Internship Overview:
We seek a motivated and detail-oriented Program Specialist Intern to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a foundational understanding of mental health, excellent communication skills, and a passion for making a difference in this field. As an intern, you will assist in the day-to-day promotion and operations of various Silence the Shame programs, contributing to our mission of promoting mental health awareness and support.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with implementing long-term operational objectives, collaborating with individuals and groups to research and document program requirements for strategic planning.
Conduct thorough research and gather relevant information to develop publications promoting program initiatives.
Develop engaging promotional materials, including reports, briefings, newsletters, and other written communications related to Silence the Shame programs.
Assist in the planning, coordinating, and executing of program-related events, summits, and meetings, ensuring all logistical details are managed efficiently.
Coordinate and participate in regular team meetings, contributing ideas and feedback to enhance program effectiveness.
Provide support for weekend and evening events as necessary, ensuring the success of all program initiatives.
Qualifications:
Master’s level student in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Nonprofit Management).
Basic knowledge of mental health concepts and issues.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
Proficiency in general office skills, including experience with internet research.
Ability to develop clear and engaging content for various audiences.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally for program-related activities.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
