The Oxford Museum Association is searching for applicants for our summer 2025 Internship. The Oxford Museum Association is offering a unique opportunity for on-site work experience in interpreting local history. Primary responsibilities involve hosting weekend visitors to the Pioneer Farmstead located at Hueston Woods State Park and at the DeWitt Log Homestead on the Oxford Area Trails. Additional responsibilities include collections research and processing, site interpretation, educational programs, and will report to the Executive Director.
Applicants should have a passion for history and communication skills that will effectively convey an appreciation for site holdings to visitors. Every effort will be made to design this work experience in direct support of individual academic studies along with providing opportunities for the interns to design and host their own special event with the support of the museum staff at the end of the summer. The internship is open to all majors though preference will be given to those seeking a career in museums and/or history..
Each position is salaried at $11.00 per hour, 4 hours per day, Saturday and Sunday, Mondays on Memorial Day, May 26th, and Labor Day, September 1st (our opening and closing weekends). The internship period begins on May 17th with orientation and ends on September 1st. Employees will be required to provide their own transportation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Passionate about history
- Interest in museums as a career
- Current or recent university student
- Able to perform independent research and projects with little or no supervision
- Works well with children
- Can speak to groups and lead tours of various sizes
- Able to work weekends
- Independent transportation
- Willing to work outside in various weather conditions
- Can work as a team
