Legal Intern
Job Description:
Are you a detail-oriented, highly organized individual with a passion for the legal field? Do you enjoy working both independently and as part of a team? If so, we want you to join our growing legal team at a federal criminal defense law firm as a Legal Intern.
We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Spanish-speaking legal intern to help manage our filing systems, retrieve important documents/files for attorneys, and assist with preparing and organizing client files and legal documents. The ideal candidate will ensure that our database is kept up-to-date, follow retention policies for both paper and electronic records, and assist with tasks such as client communication, discovery, and court preparation.
Responsibilities:
- Scan, copy, and save legal documents.
- Answer phone calls and communicate with clients professionally
- Assist with organizing files for upcoming court hearings, trials, and meetings.
- Review proper file room procedures, ensuring all documents are properly stored and tracked.
- Ensure all documents are properly filed/saved in accordance with document retention and destruction policies.
- Review discovery materials and organize case files.
- Update case information in our case management system.
- Draft correspondence to clients
- Meet deadlines and maintain clear communication within the office, working both independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications:
- 15-25 hours per week; availability to work a minimum of 4 hours per day, broken into multiple days.
- Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in Justice Studies, Paralegal Studies, or related field.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and prioritize deadlines.
- Must be a team player, but also able to work independently.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced legal environment.
- Fluent in Spanish (both written and verbal communication).
Compensation: $16 per hour
