Building & Grounds Supervisor
Southern Wisconsin Center (SWC) within the Department of Health Services is is recruiting for a Building & Grounds Supervisor. This position will work Monday through Friday, 6:30 am to 3:15 pm. There may occasionally be times when early morning or evening hours are necessary.
SWC is a state run, licensed and certified Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ICF/IDD). Position Summary
As the Building and Grounds Supervisor, you will provide first line supervision and daily task assignments for all staff employed in the Grounds, Trucking, and Building Repair and Maintenance Departments. Additional responsibilities include:
- Participating in and implement quality improvement initiatives.
- Participating in project planning.
- Directing the preventative maintenance, pest control, and grounds programs.
- Determining supply and equipment needs for maintenance.
- Assisting with monitoring budget expenditures and conducting health and safety checks/inspections.
Salary Information
The starting pay is $31.00-$35.00 per hour (approximately $64,400-$72,800 per year) plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 81/04.
Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by SWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

**This position requires the ability to drive a State vehicle. In order to become authorized to drive a State vehicle, you must meet the requirements for the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle policy, which are:
- Must have a valid driver's license;
- Must have minimum of two years licensed driving experience;
- Must be 18 years of age.
Additionally, your driving record MUST NOT reflect any of the following conditions:
- Three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years;
- Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the past 12 months;
- Suspension or revocation of driver's license.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have all the following:
- Experience performing building and grounds maintenance including tasks such as custodial work, floor and building maintenance and repair, etc.
- Experience working as a project leader/lead worker performing tasks such as delegating and prioritizing work, tracking deadlines, providing assistance, coaching, guidance and/or training to other staff, etc.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy to drive a state vehicle.**
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
- Experience working as a supervisor including tasks such as performance evaluations, reviewing and assigning work, resolving conflict, scheduling staff, interviewing, or recommending hiring of staff, implementing quality improvement initiatives, etc.
- Experience working as a supervisor in a healthcare facility, corrections facility, educational facility or other large, campus environment.
- Experience working with a fleet vehicle maintenance system such as ARI Fleet.
