Environmental Analyst Intern

position summary
Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) is seeking an Environmental Analyst Intern to join our team of dedicated consultants in Summer 2025. Interns will help support Merjent’s Project and Task Managers with environmental review, permit acquisitions, and construction/operation compliance management for energy infrastructure projects.
 

This is a part-time, paid, entry-level internship open to students and recent graduates. Part-time opportunities during the academic year may be available upon successful completion of the summer internship.
 

Eligible candidates must be able to work at our Minneapolis, Minnesota office. The anticipated compensation for this position is $22/hour.

responsibilities
• Assist Project and Task Managers with permitting, compliance services, and desktop research for the energy sector, such as wind and solar, green hydrogen, renewable natural gas, and oil and natural gas.
• Support projects that involve analysis of the environmental impacts of proposed energy projects, including analyses to support development of project-specific applications.
• Conduct field surveys or restoration visits and associated internal and external reporting.
• Conduct compliance inspections and develop related documentation.
• Assist with project coordination and tracking for restoration projects.
• Develop project-specific lists of protected federal and state species via available databases.
• Support administrative functions as needed, including document production and market research.
• Work with Project and Task Managers in a manner consistent with Merjent's reputation for excellence.
 

required qualifications and experience
• Pursuing or completed B.A. or B.S. or Graduate degree in environmental science or environmental studies, water resources, environmental engineering, biology, natural resources, or closely related field.
• Initiative-taker and with excellent organizational/task management skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly and work well in large teams and one-on-one.
• Detail oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
• Excellent oral communication and technical writing skills.
• Proficient at the Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
