Spring Semester 2025 Internship

Spring Semester 2025 Internship

Empty Arms Vermont is hiring an intern for the Winter/Spring semester (Jan. 20–May 1, 2025) for 10hrs/week. This is a unique opportunity to learn about non-profit management and support our vital work in the community.

Objectives:

  • Research and communication: The focus of this internship would be developing a
provider database for statewide communication. Our organization provides peer support for pregnancy and infant loss to any person who has experienced the death of a baby in pregnancy or within 1 year. We have a high need to make sure that anyone who experiences a loss can be knowledgeable about our programs. This database would be created by the intern and provide information about providers (medical staff, mental health, community agencies, etc.) and a way to track communication. The intern would also brainstorm best practices for communicating with providers and develop written scripts that we can use in emails, and assist with mailed communications.

Results-Based Accountability Survey: Another project would be to research results based-accountability as it pertains to peer support, pregnancy loss and grief. The intern would assist in developing metrics and surveys to help assess the efficacy of programs among participants and donors.

Event Planning: Assist in the planning and executing of our 5K Run & Walk.

Website and social media updates: Assist with monthly website and social media
updates and to take an objective look at ways we can improve our website accessibility.

Essential Skills:

  • Self-Starter: We are a small team with a lot of moving parts, so an intern should be a strong self-starter that can be comfortable jumping in, asking questions, communicating via email, and bring a strong work ethic.

  • Computer & Writing Aptitude: The intern should already have an aptitude for working in a spreadsheet program like Google Sheets or Excel. In addition, strong writing and grammar skills would be necessary.

  • Emotional sensitivity and resilience: The work we do is focused on helping grieving families, which requires a level of emotional resilience and sensitivity. We would request that an intern do an internal check on if they are in an emotionally healthy place to work on projects related to pregnancy loss and grief. The intern should have an interest the intersection between grief, parenthood, and the ways that our culture could support folks better when experiencing perinatal loss, fertility, etc.

Additional Internship Requirements

  • The intern would be required to meet in-person and work alongside an Empty Arms staff member 3 hours per week at a coffee shop, library or accessible location (9-12pm, day is flexible though consistency is preferred). The additional hours of work could be done remotely. We will request a summary of work at the end of each week.

  • Stipend: $1500 upon satisfactory completion of the internship.
