Breast Cancer Genomics and Epigenomics
The MGH Center for Cancer Research is looking for a bioinformatics analyst to study genomics and epigenomics of breast cancer. The general focus of the project is intra-tumoral heterogeneity of breast cancer and specifically triple-negative breast cancer, as well as the genetic and epigenetic underpinnings of these cancers that affect outcomes and response to therapy. We also have a special interest in the molecular differences in tumor biology in women of different ancestry that contribute to worse outcomes in certain populations.
This position is a joint appointment between the laboratory of Dr. Leif Ellisen, Breast Oncology Program Director, and the Cancer Center’s computational group led by Drs. Esther Rheinbay and Michael Lawrence. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team working on rigorous analysis of next generation sequencing data (DNA, RNA, chromatin, single-cells) from tumor and normal samples.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in computation, actively seeks out solutions to challenges and enjoys working in small teams.
Responsibilities:
- Apply existing and novel algorithms to breast cancer data sets, critically review and analyze results
- Design and develop analysis approaches and workflows and novel software tools for large data sets from different sources
- Present results effectively to clinicians, experimental and computational scientists
Qualifications:
- B.A./B.S. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biology, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
- Strong interest in breast cancer research; prior activity in this area an advantage
- Independence, ability to self-motivate, prioritize and organize
- Excellent programming skills in Python or R
- Familiarity with software engineering and algorithms
- Comfort using Word, Excel, Powerpoint or Google Docs to communicate results between team members
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and fluency in English
- Ability to work together with multi-disciplinary teams consisting of physicians, experimental scientists, statisticians and software engineers
