Position Overview: 

We are seeking an entry-level Legal Assistant to support attorneys in our Intellectual Property (IP) practice, focusing on patents, trademarks, and copyrights. This role is ideal for a smart, energetic, and eager-to-learn individual who is highly organized and detail-oriented. While 1-2 years of relevant experience is a plus, it is not a requirement as we are willing to train the right candidate.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist attorneys in drafting, editing, and proofreading IP-related legal documents, including applications, correspondence, and filings.
  • Manage attorney schedules, deadlines, and docketing for patent matters.
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry for billing purposes.
  • Prepare and file documents with the USPTO and other regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain and organize physical and electronic filing systems for patents.
  • Coordinate communication with clients, opposing counsel, and IP offices.
  • Handle general administrative duties, including answering calls and managing mail.
  • Arrange meetings, travel, and accommodation for attorneys as needed.
  • Use Microsoft Word and Excel for document creation and data management.
  • Work with IP management software for docketing and case tracking.

 

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with IP management and NetDocs software is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Experience with USPTO e-filing systems and IP-specific procedures is a plus.
  • Familiarity with patent and trademark prosecution processes is a plus.
  • 1-2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant, preferably in an IP or related legal field, is a plus but not required.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary range: $60,000 - $75,000, commensurate with experience.
