POSITION SUMMARY: The Operations and Facilities Coordinator manages all aspects of the day camp office, health center, transportation and food service operations for PEAK’s Milwaukee day camps, and will work to upkeep safe and clean spaces for all program participants and staff. During the summer season, this position supervises several high school Leaders in Training (LT) interns that support these areas. In addition, the Operations and Facilities Coordinator provides administrative support to the entire camp team and assists in other areas under the guidance and supervision of the Youth Programs Manager. 


 

POSITION AVAILABILITY:

Must be available Monday-Friday, June 9th- July 31st with the ability to work 8:00am- 4:30pm. There is a possibility of extended work day on July 3rd and hours for July 31st are 7:45am-6:00pm for all staff.


 

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • Day Camp Office & Operations: Oversee the daily operations of the day camp office. Includes managing camper files, providing and maintaining daily attendance sheets, coordinating process for supply purchasing and inventory, as well as light custodial work in the afternoons. Work closely with the Youth Program Manager to coordinate space logistics. Oversee all transportation logistics, including daily bus schedule and field trip transportation.  
  • Facilities and Space Management: The Operations and Facilities Coordinator will be responsible for light custodial work after each meal and after snack time. They, along with the support of the LT participant Interns, will reset the space as needed, making sure that each room is safe and usable. Will haul garbage and recycling for proper disposal throughout the camp day. Sanitize and maintain the kitchen lab in order to meet all Food Service standards. Will also complete necessary laundry on a daily or weekly basis. 
  • Food Service Program: Oversee food service operations and meal tracking for Summer Food Program. Manage inventory and place food and supply orders. Train and supervise kitchen aides (LT assistants and counselors assigned to meal duty). Ensure all nutritional requirements are met and required documentation is recorded; Train camp staff in Summer Food Service Program procedures; Complete timely submissions of meal counts and number served for reimbursements and subsidy.  Oversee daily snack programs in a similar manner. Will complete Food Service and Storage online training. Alongside the Youth Programs Manager, will work within a budget to order and pick up weekly ingredients and supplies. 
  • Other:  The Day Camp Operations and Facilities Coordinator will also be responsible for oversight of LT interns.  They may be asked to serve in a utility role filling in as needed in various other capacities to support Day Camp in working to achieve our mission objective and in service to our youth and families.


 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • This position is compensated at a rate of $850 per week, pre-tax.
  • Summer seasonal staff are paid on a bi-weekly basis and are classified as exempt, seasonal employees.

  • Ability to receive constructive feedback and coaching from supervisor and make necessary adjustments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers to achieve program objectives. 
  • Ability to support, and work with all camper age ranges at camp.
  • Commitment to being punctual and adhering to a schedule provided by camp leadership.
  • Possess strong communications skills and apply them with coworkers and supervisors, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive staff and camper information when necessary.
  • Ability to perform job duties in a fast-paced environment and able to embrace change and be flexible. 
  • Ability to provide job coaching constructively to team members. 
  • While not required, bilingualism (Spanish/English) would be beneficial. 


 

REQUIREMENTS & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must at least be 19 to apply.
  • Must be able to pass PEAK’s motor vehicle background check and driver training and safely drive/transport adults and children in PEAK vehicles, including a 12-passenger van.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (PEAK can assist in attaining)
  • SafeServ Food Safety certification is required (PEAK can assist in attaining)
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required


 

REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS

  • The Day Camp Operations and Facilities Coordinator reports directly to the Youth Programs Manager
  • The Day Camp Operations and Facilities Coordinator will supervise several PEAK Teen Interns (LTs.) 
  • The Day Camp Operations and Facilities Coordinator will also work closely with PEAK’s Director of Youth Programs, and Operations Manager.  


 

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS 

The mental and physical requirements and work environment conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

  • The work environment includes a variety of settings including tasks performed outside, in the kitchen, health center, agency vehicles, and some off-site locations.
  • Day Camp programming is in constant motion. Campers and staff are interacting and moving around, doing various vigorous activities throughout the day, indoor and outdoor. This position may spend a large portion of the day outdoors and may remain standing or on their feet for long periods of time.
  • Must be comfortable working in a city park as a significant portion of time will be spent at the PEAK Program Center in Tiefenthaler Park.
  • Staff are required to actively participate in all camper activities, including water-related activities.
  • Staff must be ready for new experiences and maintain a consistent level of energy all summer long.
  • Position requires standing, stooping, sitting, walking long distances on uneven terrain (5+ miles a day), and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Camp activities are often loud, involving many people talking, yelling, cheering, etc., in indoor and outdoor settings.
  • The camp environment is often hot, rainy, with bugs or other wildlife. Staff must be able to work outside in a nature setting for sustained periods of time without air conditioning. 
  • All PEAK Initiative properties, including Lake Valley Camp and the Milwaukee Program Center, are substance-free environments. Smoking, vaping, alcohol consumption, and the use of illicit drugs are strictly prohibited on all property regardless of whether or not staff are on break.
