Campus Organizer
Campus Organizer, Spring Elections and the Wisconsin Supreme Court
Wisconsin residents will be voting again this Spring in a number of elections at the state and local level. Statewide elections for the Supreme Court and Superintendent will be on the ballot in addition to a number of local municipal elections.
The majority on Wisconsin’s State Supreme Court is also once again on the ballot. And, the past year has shown how consequential the court’s role is in protecting the rights and freedoms of Wisconsinites. Since 2023, they have:
- Ordered new state legislative maps to be drawn to combat our previous Un-democratic gerrymandered maps that gave Republicans 70% of the state senate and 61% of the state assembly, despite the tight statewide margins
- Restored the use of ballot drop boxes for the 2024 election
- Ruled against Act 10, an Anti-union law that eviscerated public sector unions and the right to organize
In the near future, the Justices will release their ruling on the constitutionality of Wisconsin’s 1849 Abortion Ban.
For all of these elections, it’s important that the over 300,000 college voters in Wisconsin are educated and aware of these spring elections.
Building on work started during the April 2023 Supreme Court Election and in the 2024 election, we’re building a scrappy and innovative team that will organize and inspire thousands of college students to vote in the upcoming Spring elections, including the Supreme Court Election.
What Will You Do?
Campus organizers will work on key campuses across Wisconsin to build organizations that engage and mobilize students for the 2025 elections and beyond. The role will start in early February and run through April 15. This position will be based at one of Wisconsin’s universities and requires a significant amount of in-person work.
This is not a conventional organizing position. You will be asked to think outside the box, and be gritty-as-hell to build a startup that empowers young people for many elections to come.
Responsibilities Include:
- Recruit, train, and manage a team of students volunteers and fellows who will mobilize their peers and create a movement on campus
- Manage fun and engaging events to educate students about the upcoming elections and empower them to organize their peers.
- Conduct direct voter contact through door-knocking/dorm-storming, high traffic canvassing, texting, and calls
- Shape the overall culture on your campus for the 2025 election and beyond.
- All other duties as assigned.
Who Are You?
As a successful candidate for this job, you will:
- Have a passion for progressive politics and inspiring young people to get involved
- Be excited to think outside the box and to ideate and innovate to find the most exciting and effective GOTV tactics.
- Be eager to talk to as many students as possible (and be comfortable talking to a lot of strangers/potential volunteers).
- Be scrappy and flexible; able to manage several tasks simultaneously.
- Be a self-starter, exceptionally well-organized, and have strong time management skills.
- Have a driver's license and access to a reliable car.
- Be able to work weekends and irregular hours as required.
- Be located near or be willing to relocate to one of our focus campuses.
- Previous experience organizing for an electoral campaign is a plus; previous experience with campus organizing is a bigger plus. Neither are required.
