Laboratory Technician
This position will provide analytical support to the Microbiology Unit of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture Laboratory Services Division. This position will calibrate and maintain equipment, prepare materials and media for use in the microbiology laboratory, perform routine laboratory tests, and assist analysts when needed.

Experience working in a microbiology laboratory.
Knowledge of standard sterilization, decontamination and cleaning procedures for materials and equipment utilized by microbiology laboratories.
Knowledge and an understanding of aseptic technique.
Knowledge and understanding of safe laboratory practices sufficient to handle hazardous chemicals and infectious waste properly and safely.
Ability to use measuring devices sufficient to calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment.
Ability to accurately record laboratory data.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology or an equivalent degree containing 14 semester or 20 quarter hours of college level Microbiology/Bacteriology specific coursework.
Experience working in a laboratory that performed microbiological analysis on dairy products, food, water or environmental samples.
Experience evaluating equipment, media, and quality control parameter performance.
Possess good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
