Graphic Specialist
The Communications & Community Engagement program is seeking a Graphic Specialist. This position designs and produces visual and graphic materials that effectively communicate information, align with technical standards, and meet the target audience's needs while fostering the Clean Water Services (CWS) brand.
Please provide three (3) examples of your previous design work--such as brochures, reports, infographics, or other digital and print materials--that showcase your ability to deliver a range of design projects successfully.
Essential Functions
(The essential functions listed below are not intended to reflect all duties that may be assigned to this classification. CWS may augment duties and/or essential functions at its discretion. Additionally, some incumbents may not perform all Essential Functions.)
- Creates and produces design elements from initial concept to final delivery for various printed and digital products, serving both internal and external stakeholders of CWS. Deliverables may include reports, documents, brochures, newsletters, fact sheets, business cards, certificates, forms, PowerPoint presentations, signage (indoor/outdoor), infographics, logos, and labels.
- Develops and implements graphic design standards, ensuring brand consistency across all CWS projects. Upholds user accessibility parameters including ADA Title II compliance, while managing the CWS Identity & Style Guide in collaboration with the communications team.
- Coordinates digital asset database with communications staff. Edits photos and works with communications staff to coordinate photo shoots to capture images for designed products, social media, and websites.
- Designs and produces visual concepts, page layouts, and materials using Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud software.
- Works with regional partners, external vendors, consultants, and front-end developers to produce high-quality media and products. Prepares specifications, solicits bids, selects service providers, and ensures contract requirements are met.
- Communicates and presents design concepts to employees and partners, effectively translating employee and end-user needs into engaging, informative products. Ensures all designs align with CWS branding, accessibility guidelines, and technical design standards.
- Maintains a positive, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture to improve the understanding and recognition of diversity and foster multidisciplinary and integrated team approaches.
- Drives a CWS or personal vehicle for work-related purposes.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Graphic design principles and techniques
- Methods and materials used in developing a variety of digital and print products
- Printing and publishing principles and techniques
- Desktop publishing design and layout
- Contract administration practices and principles
- ADA Title II compliance standards for visual products
- Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, administrative rules, and regulations
- UX (user experience) design principles and techniques
SKILL IN:
- Desktop publishing and layout including Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat) software
- Attention to detail and design movement to maintain high standards of quality assurance with design projects
- Critical thinking with the ability to absorb feedback into work while aligning with established brand and technical design standards.
ABILITY TO:
- Produce aesthetically composed visual products within scheduled deadlines and allocated budgets
- Develop original designs, concepts, and visual styles for both print and digital publications, branded products, presentations, and other materials
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including a variety of CWS staff and other government officials, community groups, and the general public
- Operate effectively in a team environment
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
The following are the minimum qualifications for this position.
3 years of experience in the production of print and digital graphic design products using a variety of methods and techniques;
College-level coursework in art, graphic design, or a related field.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must possess and maintain a valid state issued driver’s license.
