ABOUT THIS JOB:

A Purchasing Researcher is responsible for conducting detailed market research and analysis to support the procurement process within an organization. This individual will gather relevant data on suppliers, products, and pricing trends to further provide insights that help optimize purchasing decisions. The role involves assessing market conditions, supplier capabilities, and potential cost-saving opportunities while ensuring procurement strategies are informed and effective. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify product trends, potential suppliers, emerging technologies and economic conditions impacting purchasing strategies 
  • Gather product knowledge and assist in recommending impactful products to add to our catalog that meet company needs while maintaining quality and cost-effectiveness 
  • Perform price index research and evaluate existing and new products to identify cost-effective solutions and competitive advantages 
  • Connect with vendors to build relationships, identify key product details, and select top items 
  • Maintain communication with Marketing, Purchasing and Sales departments on new and existing products 
  • Collaborate with Marketing to create strategic content to announce new product availability and ensure alignment with overall business objectives 
  • Collect, organize and analyze product and purchasing data to prepare regular reporting on purchasing activities, supplier performance and market conditions 
  • Communicate and present product data with Sales to strategize top-selling or trending products for clients 
  • Connect with Marketing to improve search ability, catalog filtering options and catalog mapping to ensure user-friendly experiences for clients  
  • Evaluate and compare suppliers based on quality, reliability, unique product options, and cost-effectiveness

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Economics and/or Supply Chain Management or 1-3 years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, or market research 
  • Strong ability to analyze and interpret market data, supplier information, and financial reports
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting findings and interacting with internal teams and vendors 
  • Ability to listen, understand, and follow instructions 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members at all levels
  • Effective problem-solving skills and ability to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements 
  • High level of attention to detail in research, data analysis and reporting 
  • Proficient in Google Suite (Google Docs, Sheets and Slides) and/or Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and familiarity with procurement software or databases 

Must have proper documentation for employment in the United States 

High School diploma or equivalent preferred 

 

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION FOR:

  • Previous Purchasing, Supply Chain and/or Marketing experience

 

THIS POSITION REPORTS TO:

  • Purchasing Manager, Megan Hadlock 

 

SCHEDULE:

  • Monday to Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm (Full-time)
  • Monday to Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm (Part-time)

*Flexible Part-time schedule offered for a temporary four month period. After a four month period, this role will be required full-time. 

 

TRAINING:

Training for this position will be completed by the department manager. Training will consist of education on key processes, preparation and staging requirements by customer, location of tools, supplies and materials. You will be trained on how to use the order interface, how to properly read orders and where to look for notes. Additional training will be completed as processes evolve or as required.

 

SAFETY:
