Our Organization and Mission: The Office represents the State of Florida in state and federal civil and criminal courts, from trial courts to the Supreme Court of the United States. 

 

Position Summary: This is a Civil Enforcement Financial Investigator position within the Antitrust Division of the Office of the Attorney General in Tallahassee, Florida. This position works closely with attorneys, economists, and other legal support personnel to collect and analyze data and information from various sources to be used as evidence in complex civil investigations and litigations. The Financial Investigator will also assist attorneys to prepare for document productions, depositions, and drafting of pleadings, investigative subpoenas and discovery requests and responses. This position must be able to work in a collaborative team environment and will receive projects with defined parameters and specific timelines for completion. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, reliable and have a strong desire to protect Florida consumers.

 

Pay:  $50,000 - $54,000 Annually 

 

Qualifications: 

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in conducting investigations or in law enforcement; or

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of professional experience in securities, accounting, or financial examining.

A master's degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one year of the required experience.

Professional or nonprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

 

Preference Will be Given To Applicants With:

  • Degree or professional experience in accounting, finance or business.
  • Experience utilizing Excel in tracking trends, financial transactions, or providing statistical analysis.
  • Experience working in an investigation related to antitrust, white-collar crime, economic crimes and/or consumer protection.
  • Experience in complex civil or criminal investigations

The Work You Will Do: The successful incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • Conducts all phases of investigation of alleged antitrust and consumer fraud violations, including supervising data collection and input, analyzing data, performing interviews of fact witnesses. And making recommendations to legal staff.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates reports, records, general market data, and other financial data to determine whether a company or individual has violated the antitrust, false claims or RICO laws.
  • Projects may include researching and culling external and internal information from several sources, such as reviewing consumer complaints, analyzing bank accounts to identify the flow of money, analyzing governmental purchasing information and data, or determining the financial health of a company.
  • Assists attorneys in preparation of depositions and for document productions, as well as in the drafting of pleadings, investigative subpoenas, and discovery requests.
  • Attends depositions as needed.
  • Prepares documents, exhibits, schedules, reports, and other pertinent information for use in cases litigated in courts of law.
  • Testifies as a fact witness when necessary.
  • Obtains evidence in the form of sworn testimony, written interrogatories, and documents.
  • Interviews and secures statements from witnesses.
  • Identifies and locates potential fact witnesses in antitrust, fraud and economic crime cases.
  • Acts as a liaison capacity with local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Completes projects in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
  • Provides accurate and timely status updates
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
