The 2025 CIEE UNHCR Student Challenge and Global Internship is a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Develop solutions to help refugees for a chance to win a Summer 2026 Global Internship, facilitated by CIEE.  Registration is now open!

WHO IS ELIGIBLE

2025 CIEE UNHCR Student Challenge and Global Internship applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be currently enrolled full time as an undergraduate student at an accredited higher education institution globally, with graduation year of 2025 or later.
  • Submit team registration no later than February 7, 2024
  • Be part of a team comprised of 3-4 members, including the team captain. Team members do not have to be from the same school.
  • Be able to travel to Singapore (fully funded) for in-person finals June 24-27, 2025.

WHAT IS THE STUDENT CHALLENGE 

  • The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency call on undergraduate student teams from across the globe to present their solution ideas to support increasing access to higher education and livelihood for forcibly displaced youth around the world.

WHAT IS THE COMPETITION FORMAT

The 2025 CIEE UNHCR Student Challenge will consist of 3 rounds:

  • Round 1 (February 10-21, 2025) – Teams will submit a 500-word proposal to address the challenge.
  • Round 2 (March 31 to April 11, 2025) – 36 teams from Round 1 will be selected to refine and present their proposal to a panel of expert judges virtually.
  • Final Round (June 24-27, 2025) – The top 3 teams from Round 2 will earn a fully funded trip to Singapore to compete in the final round, in person, during CIEE’s 13th Annual Global Internship Conference June 25-27, 2025.

GRAND PRIZE - SUMMER 2026 GLOBAL INTERNSHIP 

  • Each member of the winning team will earn a CIEE-facilitated global internship in one of 33 global cities during summer 2026. Students will intern at a host company that aligns with their skills and career goals.
  • CIEE covers the full program cost, including housing. Airfare, meals, and recreational activities are not covered. Students are eligible to apply for additional CIEE travel grants or scholarships.
  • Estimated dates of internship: June 15, 2026 through August 10, 2026

HOW MANY STUDENTS WILL BE SELECTED FOR THE STUDENT CHALLENGE GLOBAL INTERNSHIP

  • Up to four (4) students will be selected.

HOW DO I APPLY?

WHAT IS THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE

  • Student team registration is open until February 7, 2025. Late registrations will not be accepted.

WHAT IS THE REGISTRATION FEE  

  • $50 USD, non-refundable

WHEN WILL THE WINNERS OF THE STUDENT CHALLENGE GLOBAL INTERNSHIPS BE ANNOUNCED?

  • Global Internship winners will be announced on June 27,  2025.

GLOBAL INTEREST   

  • Last year, 130 teams comprised of 478 students representing 80 universities from 38 countries participated in the 2024 challenge. They worked together to solve one of the most pressing challenges of our time and along the way gained valuable skills that employers are looking for, expanded their professional networks, and positioned themselves for global career opportunities.
