Spring 2025 Afterschool Support-Writing Coach

Join America SCORES Cleveland as a writing coach for our Spring season.

Help students learn about their communities and develop a service learning project for the season.

All SCORES programming takes place in the Cleveland Metro School district. Times vary by school and location (start times between 2:00pm and 4:00pm). The ages of students range from 1st - 8th grade, depending on the team and the location.

Writing coaches are required to work at least 2 days a week for an 11-week season. Sessions run for about an hour and a half and run Monday - Thursday after school (2:30-5:00).

Coaches will be provided training and all supplies needed. All coaches are required to complete a background check before they can work with the students in the program.

Coaches are paid $40 per session and also paid for training and special events.

Writing Coach Responsibilities:

• Work with 16 youth (grades vary) in creating and completing a group poem and individual poems using SCORES curriculum, 2 days per week 60-90 mins for 11 weeks
• Distribute, maintain, and collect SCORES issued writing equipment
• Ensure the safe arrival and departure of poet-athletes from writing sessions
• Complete daily attendance using the League Apps system (training provided)
• Communicate with SCORES staff and fellow SCORES coaches at your school
• Promote teamwork, leadership, and commitment skills
• Attend all trainings and coach meetings

Requirements: A successful candidate will be a team player who is committed to the mission of America SCORES Cleveland and has experience working with youth. A writing coach must be eligible to work in the US, at least 20 years old and pass a background check.

Compensation: A writing coach is paid $40 per session. Coaches are also paid for training and special events. Professional Development opportunities are available.
