Area Manager

BASIC FUNCTION: 

The Area Manager (AM) will be directly responsible for monitoring and assisting with operations at 3-6 client facilities. They will be responsible for ensuring that facility safety conditions are always to standard and that employee performance is satisfactory. This will entail duties such as checking to make sure employees are completing all daily facility tasks, monitoring for and addressing facility issues such as chemical imbalances and pump room failures, and communicating with clients to ensure their satisfaction is met. This position requires strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills as well as a polite and helpful spirit when working with others. Area Managers must be able to take a peer-mentor approach to coaching employees when they are in need of performance improvement. Flexibility and availability are also necessary as Area Managers may be required to lifeguard at any given time (while working).


 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facility Management: 

  • Communicate with the client on a weekly basis. Act as a client relations representative to address any client concerns, issues, or disputes, and communicate them to the District Manager
  • Responsible for monitoring the day-to-day maintenance of each pool in designated area. This includes but may not be limited to: 
    • Monitoring daily chemical logs and daily attendance sheets
    • Cleaning pump baskets, monitoring filtration system, and backwashing when necessary
    • Ensuring facility cleanliness through personal involvement and delegation to employees
    • Problem-solving minor facility issues to the best of ability
    • Taking inventory of supplies and chemicals at facilities and reporting to DM
  • Maintain availability via phone call/text after office hours to address spontaneous facility issues and communicate them to the Aquatics Office
  • Meet with health inspectors as they conduct facility inspections
  • Communicate all facility incident reports to the Aquatics Office within 24 hours
  • Other duties as assigned


 

Personnel Management: 

  • Will supervise a team of 15-40 employees within designated area
  • Responsible for holding lifeguards to the standard of the American Red Cross certification, the Ohio Revised Code and Hastings Water Works standards and policies
  • Frequently check on employees throughout the day to ensure well-being and job performance
  • Responsible for communicating feedback to employees including praise, coaching and correction
  • Organize and run preseason orientation for new and returning employees
  • Continuously provide orientations throughout the season for employees who have not yet worked at facilities in the assigned area

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Essential:  

  • High school diploma, GED or in the process of obtaining a High school diploma or GED
  • A minimum age of 17 years of age 
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable self-transportation
  • American Red Cross Certification (Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR and AED)

Preferred: 

  • 2+ years lifeguarding
  • 2+ years working in a customer service-related industry: retail, restaurant, hospitality, etc.
  • American Red Cross Certification (Lifeguard Instructor and/or Water Safety Instructor)
