Lifeguard Instructor
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) will be responsible for assisting with the training of all lifeguard certified employees in the Aquatics Department. Flexibility and availability are also necessary as Lifeguard Instructors may be required to lifeguard at any given time (while working).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lifeguard Class Instruction:
- Responsible for organizing and running lifeguard classes before and throughout the summer season
- Instruct new lifeguards and lifeguard candidates in accordance with American Red Cross Standards and ensure they complete all necessary certification requirements.
This will include but may not be limited to:
- Making sure all candidates successfully complete all prerequisite requirements
- Ensuring all candidates are actively participating in all aspects of class
- Ensuring all candidates are given all necessary instruction to adequately perform lifeguard duties in accordance with American Red Cross standards
- Maintain inventory of all equipment used for classes: Mannequins, AEDs, Backboards, etc.
- Maintain a record of attendance for all classes
- Ensure facility cleanliness after all class sessions are concluded
- Other duties as assigned
In-Service Facilitation:
- Will organize and facilitate 1-4 In-service trainings per week for lifeguard employees
- Responsible for holding lifeguards to the standard of the American Red Cross certification
- Ensure in-service attendance is recorded and reported to Aquatics Trainer
- Responsible for communicating feedback to employees including praise, coaching and correction

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Essential:
- High school diploma, GED or in the process of obtaining a High school diploma or GED
- A minimum age of 17 years of age
- Valid driver’s license with reliable self-transportation
- American Red Cross Certification (Lifeguarding with First Aid, CPR and AED. Lifeguarding Instructor or Instructor Trainer)
Preferred:
- 2+ years lifeguarding
- 1+ years working as a lifeguard instructor
- American Red Cross Certification (Lifeguard Instructor Trainer and/or Water Safety Instructor)
