Victims Advocate
The Victims Advocate (VA), coordinates, and manages the creation and delivery of a high-quality advocacy program for people impacted by gun violence. The VA oversees the administrative aspects of the program to meet the objectives of RISE and its stakeholders, analyzes data to determine the effectiveness of the program, suggests and implements improvements to programs and services, and plans and manages outreach activities for increased awareness of RISE programs; specifically the Advocacy program.
Position Summary: The VA provides immediate telephone and in-person support to people requesting services and is actively involved in policy development and community task forces. The VA collaborates with healthcare providers for medical support, partners with legal services to guide victims through the justice system, and works flexibly to meet the diverse needs of families, aiming to serve 100 families during the grant period.

We prioritize the well-being of children, caregivers, and families; offering healing opportunities in small group settings. RISE provides tools to assist in trauma recovery, healing-centered engagement, positive identity, professional development, and grief support. RISE primarily serves King County and Pierce Counties and surrounding areas of Washington State.
Program Summary: The Advocacy program is comprised of the following components;

Crisis Intervention:
- Provide telephone and in-person support to individuals and families affected by gun violence.

Advocacy:
- Actively participate in policy development and community task forces to address systemic issues related to gun violence.

Medical Advocacy:
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure victims receive necessary medical support.

Legal Advocacy:
- Partner with legal services to guide victims through the justice system, upholding their rights. As well as ensuring they have access to necessary legal support.

CVC Assistance:
- Proactively disseminate information about Crime Victims Compensation (CVC).
- Assist families
- Conduct workshops to educate and assist victims with CVC applications
Reports to: Executive Director
Duty and Key Responsibilities

Build and maintain partnerships with facilitators, providers, and community partners
- Recruit and maintain a list of providers, therapists, volunteers, and facilitators
- Partner with small businesses and other community entrepreneurs
- Find, build, maintain, and engage with relevant and strategic partnerships and
resources

Connect families to support and resources
- Suggest culturally responsive resources for children and their families
- Ensure participants have access to gift cards for transportation services as needed

Complete administrative tasks
- Submit required weekly documentation of activities (i.e. updating calendar, client
progress notes, reimbursement forms, assessments, etc.)
- Support fundraising initiatives and event planning
- Manage tasks and projects using our project management tool, Trello
- Collaborate with capacity-building consultants provided by our funders
- Attend grantee-related training, learning exchanges, and other essential meetings
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of quarterly reports to funders and other stakeholders

Support the overall goals and vision of RISE
- Attend and participate in all RISE meetings, trainings, and other opportunities for
professional development and growth
- Collaborate with peer Program Managers to meet the needs of the families and
support the success of the cohorts
- And other responsibilities and relevant projects as assigned and appropriate

Orientation and Familiarization
- Meet with key stakeholders and team members to understand the organization's mission, values, and existing programs.
- Review existing documentation and reports for insights into the nonprofit's history, achievements, and challenges.
- Establish relationships with the staff for effective collaboration.

Needs Assessment and Program Analysis
- Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment to identify gaps and challenges in services, focusing on recruitment.

Outreach Strategy Development
- Identify target communities and key stakeholders including police departments, hospitals, victim advocates, and other relevant organizations.
- Develop an outreach strategy to raise awareness about the nonprofit's services among these stakeholders.
- Determine the most effective communication channels, including social media, community events, and direct outreach.

Partnership Development
- Initiate contact with police departments, hospitals, and victim advocates to introduce the nonprofit's services and discuss potential partnerships.
- Schedule meetings with key individuals or departments to present the organization's mission, services, and goals.
- Collaborate with potential partners to develop joint initiatives and referral pathways.

Recruitment Campaign
- Design and implement a recruitment campaign targeting families affected by gun violence throughout Washington state.
- Develop marketing materials, including brochures, flyers, and online content. Coordinate outreach events and information sessions in collaboration with community partners.
- Enroll new families through in-person meetings and via phone calls.

Training and Mentoring
- Undergo training in CVC procedures and identify a mentor within the community for guidance.

Family Support
- Work flexibly to meet the diverse needs of families, aiming to serve 100 families during the grant period.
Desired Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of experience working in some combination of the following areas: program coordinator or program manager in a nonprofit organization, community organizing, social services etc. Relevant college degrees can be substituted for some portion of your experience.
- Some administrative and/or non-profit management experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and management skills.
- A strong commitment to the needs of RISE’s communities.
- High level of comfort using MS Office software, Google services such as Drive, Sheets and Docs, Zoom grants, and Gusto.
- Professional or personal experience working with children and families who have been impacted by gun violence.
- Some familiarity with trauma-informed care and practical experience.
Working Conditions: This position must work some weekend days, attend after-hours events, and be available for consultation when needed.
This position may be called upon and must be capable of compassionate de-escalation and crisis intervention involving youth working through trauma.
Compensation and Benefits: $28.85 per hour. After a successful 3-month probationary period, you will be eligible for limited medical benefits. Additionally, you will be entitled to 10 holidays annually.
Work Schedule: This is a full-time position. Working hours are between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday, and require flexibility specifically when the workshop is hosted which is usually held in the evenings, and when community events are held. During probation, you must work in the office at our Burien, WA location. After probation, this may become a hybrid position with the ability to work from home for a portion of the week.
