Internship Program Description – Hospitality

Spring/Summer 2025

Located in Southeast Iowa, Spirit Hollow Golf Course lays on a truly breathtaking property. Rated #1 Best Public Course in Iowa since 2018. Our goal at Spirit Hollow is to get better each year! Spirit Hollow is now accepting resumes for the position of summer intern. We are seeking individuals who are eager to learn, have the ability to multi-task and have outstanding customer service skills.

Along with an award-winning golf course, Spirit Hollow features a 20-acre practice facility, an 8-room Lodge, two Cabins which sleep up to 8 guests each set amid a competition courtyard, Lambo’s the 19th hole, and in December 2018, Spirit Hollow opened the Shankopotamus Golf Academy powered by Toptracer Range, bringing a whole new brand of golf entertainment to Iowa.

Every employee at Spirit Hollow is trained in the philosophy of providing Pure Golf & Warm Hospitality to each and every guest. As a member of our intern program, you will have the opportunity to be trained and gain valuable knowledge across all areas of golf operations, food & beverage operations and guest hospitality. The Spirit Hollow Intern Program will give you practical day-to-day experience and real-time instruction of key concepts and practical solutions from industry professionals.

·        Have a fundamental knowledge of the game of golf

·        Be computer literate in Word and Excel

·        Possess basic knowledge of email  

·        Have the ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and in person

 

Your internship will provide knowledge and experience in the following areas, but not limited to:

Hospitality:

·        Reservation Taking – scheduling and entering guest reservation and guest information.

·        Point of Sale Software – bill and charge guests for their lodging, golf and food and beverage.

·        Setting of Lodge Rooms and Cabins – preparing each room and cabin for the arrival of new guests, setting up the competition courtyard with all necessary equipment, stocking rooms/cabins with requested alcohol from groups and making sure rooms are cleaned

·        Communication – keeping food and beverage management and golf shop management up to date with any changes and/or additions to stay and play guests.

·        Phone Skills – call guests to get information regarding their upcoming stay and play.

·        Monthly Reporting – running reports in our software for monthly sales, analyzing

      reports and comparing them to previous years.

·        Forecasting – Looking at trends from previous years and knowing when to run “specials” for stay and play guests.

·        Marketing – Communicating with our marketing director to update social media posts with updates to stay and play, upcoming events, etc.

·        Housekeeping – Cleaning rooms/cabins after guests depart with emphasis on attention to detail.

·        Overnight Security - Checking the property at Spirit Hollow Golf Course, making sure doors are secure, assisting guests with questions, assisting with transportation to casino along with other duties assigned by management.

 

Golf Operations:

·        Outside Services – Bag service (golf and luggage), cart set-up, re-pairing of groups, food and beverage delivery, golf concierge (starter)

·        Golf Counter Ops – answering phones, taking tee times, data collection, checking in stay and play guests, Toptracer reservations, entering guest information into tee sheet.

·        Point of Sale Software – bill and charge guests for their golf, stay and play food and beverage.

·        Sales – Targeting stay and play guests sizing, needs, etc.

 

Food & Beverage:

·        On-Course delivery – Learning our on-course delivery service, delivering food/beverage to our stay and play guests on the course, working the drive-thru window.

·        Bartending – Cleaning glasses, taking guest orders, stocking and organizing coolers, making drinks, recommending drinks, up-selling drinks.

·        Event Coordination – Helping with set-up, scheduling, billing, working and tear down of events hosted in one of our three event venues.
