Intern, Communications Department
Friends of the Global Fight is an advocacy organization that works to increase public awareness and understanding of the Global Fund as well as knowledge about HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. We are seeking a self-starting intern to join our team. Interns will work directly with members of the Communications Department on various projects related to global health advocacy and media outreach. Activities may include research, supporting social media and website content management, drafting materials, assisting with congressional and academic events, monitoring and analyzing media coverage, and liaising with partners in the advocacy and global health community. The intern will participate in meetings with staff and organizational partners, as well as take advantage of health-related events in Washington, D.C. A stipend will be provided to help cover living expenses.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of or interest in global health and/or foreign policy
- Interest in news media and/or media relations
- Solid research skills
- Ability to take initiative, multitask, work quickly and be flexible
- Strong attention to detail
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communications skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
Knowledge of software programs including Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) and Constant Contact a plus.
Required Education:
Awarded or pursuing undergraduate or graduate degree
This internship is part-time. The intern will primarily be working remotely except for optional in-person events or meetings in D.C.
Interns receive a $2,500 stipend if available for 20 hrs. per week, or a prorated amount if only available 15 hrs. a week to help cover living expenses over the course of their internship. Friends U.S. is happy to provide course credit as well.
