HUD is currently accepting applications for progressive thinkers who are looking for an opportunity to collaborate with new ideas and tools to support the Office of the Chief Information Officer’s Digital Accessibility Program (DAP).

 

What you’ll achieve:

Your work will directly improve access to data, information, and services for individuals with disabilities by strengthening HUD’s digital accessibility program.

 

Responsibilities

As an intern with the DAP, you will apply your current skills and develop new competencies while serve as a team member in any of the following work areas:

 

Performing inclusive research that advances the agency’s understanding of the needs of users with disabilities and the state of information technology.

Recommending alternative data collection approaches, systems, and strategies to optimize data capture, statistical efficiency and data quality and reporting.

Evaluating websites, systems, or other information and communication technology to improve accessibility, and developing prototypes of processes, procedures, or tools to do the same.

Designing inputs to policies with agency-wide effect.

Developing or leading outreach and awareness events with agency-wide reach.

What you’ll learn

The DAP tailors its internship program to align the interests of the intern and the needs of the agency at that time. Interns are encouraged to learn and try new skills and techniques in a safe, inclusive setting. Every intern cohort will also receive development in the following general competencies:

Human centered design,

Inclusive research practices,

Strategic thinking and innovation,

Accessibility requirements for information and communication technology (ICT),

How to create and evaluate ICT that’s accessible for everyone, and

Policy development process.

Conducting analysis and building inclusive, data-driven risk models to help improve equitable access to data and information.

The internship will be part-time (10-35 hours per week) during the Spring 2025 semester (January-May); We will also use this announcement to recruit for our Fall 2025 Internship Cohort (September-December). Start and end date flexible.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis for each semester and can be extended based on mutual interest.

 

Excellent oral, written, visual, and organizational communication skills with strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively. Eagerness to explore the intersection of technology, security, accessibility, and policy. Strong research and documentation skills.
