Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree AND experience equivalent to one year of full-time professional staff administrative and/or analytic experience.
Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time increasingly responsible sub professional, para-professional, or professional experience may be substituted for the required education, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of four years.
Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional graduate coursework in public administration, business administration, or other acceptable field may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis.
OR
One year of professional administrative services experience with the State of Tennessee.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Positions within the Department of Human Services may be required to:
1. Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority;
2. Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority;
3. Supply a fingerprint sample prescribed by the TBI based criminal history records check;
4. Submit to a review of their status on the Department of Health’s vulnerable persons registry.
Positions within the Disability Determinations Section of the Division of Rehabilitation Services within the Department of Human Services will be required to complete a federal background check in accordance with the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) for issuance of an HSPD-12 compliant Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential card.
Job Overview
The Division of Rehabilitation Services, Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Program, seeks to provide employment-focused rehabilitation services for individuals with disabilities consistent with their strengths, priorities, and resources. The VR Program provides a variety of individualized services to persons with disabilities in preparation for their employment in the competitive labor market. Services provided that reduce or eliminate disability related barriers to employment may include counseling and guidance, training, maintenance and transportation, transition services from school to work, personal care assistance, rehabilitation technology services, job placement, post-employment services, supported employment, and independent living services.
Under the general supervision of a Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Region 4 Manager, the Administrative Services Assistant 2 (ASA2) is primarily responsible for supporting VR Field Operations and other Division of Rehabilitation Services program areas. The ASA 2 will provide in office coverage at least 3 days/week at the local VR office in Cookeville, TN (Putnam County). The ASA2 will be welcoming, informative, responsive, and encouraging and will promote operational efficiency and programmatic effectiveness. Additionally, the ASA2 will use person-centered philosophies and customer focused service delivery models to engage customers and ensure they are informed throughout the customer journey. Lastly, the ASA2 will assist their team with the achievement of increased customer engagement and employment outcomes for people with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Utilize case management system to drive case progression. Documentation of case work must be included in case file and deadlines to must be adhered to.
- Coordination of services in collaboration with local partners. ASA2 will collaborate with internal and external vendors to ensure necessary documentation is completed to receive payment for services provided.
- Will assure updates are made to area resource guides and various other documents, as requested.
- Create and follow up on referrals for VR services, gathering essential demographic information and scheduling intake appointments with our VR Support Coordinator or VR Counselor.
- Administrative Services Assistant 2 must practice person-centered thinking and planning. Active listening to customers and problem solving with the person is vital to success in this role.
- Provide resources, to include internal services, to customers while serving on our Statewide Centralized Customer Contact Center.
