Estimating Intern

Position Summary 

The Estimating Intern will work collaboratively with the preconstruction department to support various estimating projects while gaining hands-on experience. The intern will work closely with experienced estimators, project managers, and subcontractors to develop accurate and competitive bids. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to real-world project estimates and develop essential estimating and preconstruction skills.

 

Contacts

Internal: Works closely with preconstruction department and team members across different departments. 

External: Clients, architects, engineers, suppliers, subcontractors, and partners.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Assist in the preparation of detailed cost estimates by reviewing project plans, specifications, and requirements.
  2. Perform on screen takeoffs to assist in the evaluation of subcontractor and vendor pricing.
  3. Compile and evaluate data on all factors that influence costs, such as materials, labor, location, and duration.
  4. Solicit and analyze bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
  5. Maintain and update cost databases, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  6. Prepare and organize bid documents and presentations.
  7. Collaborate with project managers and the pre-construction team to develop value engineering options.
  8. Assist in maintaining relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned to support the estimating and pre-construction team.

  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  5. Basic understanding of construction methods and materials.
  6. Strong organizational and time management skills.

 

Required Qualifications

  1. Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Previous internship or work experience in construction or estimating is a plus.
  3. Knowledge of estimating software is preferred.
