Constituent Services Liaison
A New York City Council Member’s district office is seeking a part-time Constituent Services Liaison to work with residents of the 23rd District to collectively and individually address problems facing their communities. Under the supervision of the Chief of Staff and District Manager, the liaison will field constituent requests from the District for assistance, seeking timely and satisfactory responses to those requests, and work closely with community leaders and community-based organizations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Co-manage the District 23 constituent service caseload.
· Take calls, emails, letters, and visits from constituents seeking assistance.
· Address issues with relevant city agencies or service providers by phone, email, or letter.
· Follow-up with relevant city agencies or service providers to track progress and ensure resolution.
· Provide regular updates to constituents and supervisors.
· Maintain up-to-date records on all cases by ensuring that cases are entered into “Council Connect,” a Council-wide constituent service database.
· Draft correspondence to constituents regarding their cases or relevant information.
· Monitor community activity by elevating in-district events internally.
· Inform the team about in-district issues, cases, and logistics.
· Represent the Council Member in public settings and attending community meetings.
· Monitor active constituent casework, aggregate results and challenges, and discern trends that warrant coordinated multi-team responses, including strategies, projects, or events that respond to constituent needs.
· Identify and craft communications for district-wide emails regarding relevant district information, community updates, constituent service stories, and identifying issues worthy of individual pitching.
· Participate in community meetings and events as a representative for the office, including community board meetings and other community organizations in the district.
· Work across teams to flag constituent services concerns and requests to the Legislative & Budget Director for policy-making and advocacy consideration.
· Develop creative in-person and digital organizing strategies to engage constituents.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Deep knowledge of District 23, including its neighborhoods, history, and diverse communities.
· Fluency in multiple languages is a plus.
· Some night and weekend availability to attend community meetings.
· Experience in case management, organizing, constituent services, or other applicable fields, ideally in New York City.
· Demonstrated project management and problem-solving experience.
· Strong organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and maintain consistent attention to details.
· Ability to stay calm in a fast-paced, high-pressure political and media environment.
· Interest in pushing boundaries and a demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to New York City’s biggest problems.
· A valid New York State driver’s license and access to reliable transportation preferred.
