Experienced Planner

Salary Range:$72,000.00 To $78,000.00 Annually

THE CITY OF LEAWOOD, KANSAS is looking for an
Experienced Senior Planner 

As a Senior Planner with the City of Leawood, you are an integral part of improving and making a difference in the lives of those here and in surrounding communities.  You will join a team of Planners, a Planning Official, and a Planning Director who share the same passion for serving the City of Leawood. 

You will be a project manager for several highly anticipated projects, which may include the mixed use developments of East Village, Leawood Village, One35, and many more.   Come in at the start of the review of the City’s Comprehensive Plan and Leawood Development Ordinance and help make improvements and changes that will affect the development of Leawood for years to come.

Your work responsibilities may include: 

  • Reviewing commercial and residential development and sign applications to ensure conformity with the City of Leawood’s Development Ordinance, codes, policies, and guidelines.
  • Creating and reviewing illustrations, maps, plans, plats, designs, or other work for current planning, long-range planning, subdivision development, and land use regulation activities.
  • Reviewing and analyzing planning development applications from submission through construction.
  • Conducting landscape reviews to comply with approved plans and producing an annual report.
  • Work with other planning staff to prepare reports for development applications.
  • Provide administrative support for the Planning Commission and attend meetings.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Urban or Community Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or related field with five (5) years of experience in planning or community development. A Master’s degree in Community Planning, Architecture, or a related field would substitute for one (1) year of experience. Must have American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) designation. 

Preferred Requirements: Eight (8) years of experience in a municipal planning position. Experience working with ArcGIS, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, SketchUp, or Bluebeam.
