About the Department of Career Services: The Department of Career Services is committed to leading a university-wide culture of career advising and professional mentorship to empower students and alumni to reach their unique career goals.
Position Summary:
The Career Advisor facilitates and empowers students at Oregon Tech to develop and manage their career paths. The Career Advisor provides 1:1 and group coaching on foundational career readiness including resume/CV preparation, job and internship search strategies, professionalism, and networking. The Career Advisor manages the Department’s use of Handshake, Oregon Tech’s online career management platform, which houses job postings for on-campus employment, internships, and professional employment opportunities, as well as career events for students and alumni. The Career Advisor is responsible for proactive outreach to students to encourage participation in career services programs and events as well as supporting the Career Services Department in the promotion and execution of career programs and events to students on Handshake and other media sources.
The location for this position is flexible, with the option to be based either entirely in-person at our Portland-Metro campus or our Klamath Falls campus. However, there is a strong preference for the successful candidate to be located at our Portland-Metro campus. The role will also require occasional travel between both campuses.
Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- One-two years of professional level experience in a technology, business, healthcare, or higher education setting OR equivalent education/training
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated success working within a team environment.
- Ability to effectively and respectfully work, communicate, and collaborate in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings
- Ability to adhere to process and policies as defined by the Career Services Department
- Commitment to continuous improvement, including tracking, benchmarking, and reporting your own work
- Creative, adaptable, flexible, and able to meet deadlines
- Comfort with software platform technology or a fast learner
Preferred Qualifications:
- One-two years of experience advising students in a higher education setting, including program advising, academic advising, or other forms of advising/coaching
- Experience hosting events, promoting events, or creating social media or other marketing materials
- Experience working with external stakeholders
