ABOUT THE ROLE

This position will be working with students who are deaf, blind, deaf-blind, and with multiple disabilities for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors.  Disabilities may include vision and/or hearing impairment, intellectual disabilities, Cerebral Palsy, autism or other disabilities.  This position will be directly responsible for intensive crisis and behavioral management and behavioral support service delivery including hands-on intervention.

You will play a vital role to ensure that AIDB’s culture of inclusion is reinforced by developing interventions that promote the provision of comprehensive educational services to sensory-impaired children. Through a collaborative team approach, you will provide services and support that champion the limitless potential of all individuals.

 

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Social Work or Criminal Justice Minimum of one (1) year of experience providing behavior management services.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in selection, administration, scoring, and interpretation of individual assessments related to evaluating behavior. 
  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience training and facilitating workshops.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Social Work, or Criminal Justice.
  • Experience working with individuals with sensory impairments and multiple disabilities.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience providing behavior management services. 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Responsible for serving and maintaining caseloads on the Alabama School for the Deaf campus and the Helen Keller School campus.
  • Assist with obtaining functional behavioral assessments (FBA), writing behavior intervention plans (BIP), including obtaining required approvals, data collecting and graphing, and reviewing plans for effectiveness.
  • Work collaboratively with a counselor and other behavior specialists in preparation for the psychiatric clinic.
  • Act as a liaison for staff, students/clients, and parents/guardians for clinic purposes.
  • Provide appropriate documentation on students/clients for psychiatric clinics.
  • Provide appropriate follow-up to psychiatric clinic recommendations. 
  • Work collaboratively with related services providers and other specialized areas to promote positive behavior interventions. 
  • Maintain and update treatment plans and case notes in the designated documentation and data tracking system.
  • Comply with all AIDB policies and procedures regarding well-being and student safety.
  • Complete the Managing Crisis Safely program or other crisis prevention program as designated by the Administration within the first three (3) months of employment.
  • Ability to perform physical demands such as occasional lifting of students, carrying, pushing and/or pulling wheelchairs, stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling, and fine motor dexterity.
  • May be required to travel statewide and to possess a driver license.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
  • A sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months of employment and INTERMEDIATE within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
  • Must complete AIDB online training on Deafness, Blindness, Visual Impairments, DeafBlindness and Multiple Disabilities within twelve (12) months of hire
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB

SALARY: $46,679-$62,270 Scale D2 Rank 54

                   $52,535-$70,143 Scale D2 Rank 58

Direct deposit is required.

This is an exempt position, and is not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
