Receptionist (Office Assistant 3)

Keeping Washington Clean and Evergreen

 


The Department of Ecology's Eastern Region Office (ERO) in Spokane, WA is looking to fill a Receptionist (Office Assistant 3) position. Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.

This position is crucial to the daily operations of the Department of Ecology’s Eastern Region Office. In this position, you will serve as the first point of contact for all customers. Being friendly and customer service oriented is key to being successful in this role. You will get to know the interworking of Ecology’s 11 environmental programs and how we support the people of Washington State.

In this role, you will be a part of a small but mighty administration team dedicated to supporting the everyday business functions of Department of Ecology’s Eastern Region Office. Our team is fun and fast-paced and heavily interacts with internal and external customers all day.

Please Note: This is a temporary position that will end after one year.

This position is required to work in the office from 8 am - 5 pm, 5 days a week. Applicants with questions about position location options, tele-work, and flexible or compressed schedules are encouraged to reach out to the contact person listed below in “other information.” Schedules are dependent upon position needs and are subject to change.

Please Note: If the successful candidate for this position is fluent in English and Spanish, they will receive a 5% Dual Language Assignment pay increase. In this case, the salary range will be $3,179 - $4,198 per month.

Duties

 

 

What makes this role unique?

In this unique role, you will interact with most everyone that works in the Eastern Region Office. You will have the opportunity to listen, learn, and support the interesting environmental work Ecology does.

What you will do:

 

  • Answer multi-line telephones.
  • Help in-person customers.
  • Respond promptly to emails, voicemails, and Microsoft Teams chat messages.
  • Support Ecology’s Commute Trip Reduction program.


 

 

Qualifications

Years of required experience indicated below are full-time equivalent years. Full-time equivalent experience means that any experience where working hours were less than 40 hours per week will be prorated in order to meet the equivalency of full-time. We would calculate this by looking at the total hours worked per week, divide this by 40, and then multiply by the total number of months worked. Examples of the proration calculations are:

 

  • 30 hours worked per week for 20 months: (30/40) x 20 months = 15 months full-time equivalent
  • 20 hours worked per week for 12 months: (20/40) x 12 months = 6 months full-time equivalent

Experience for both required and desired qualifications can be gained through various combinations of formal professional employment, education, and volunteer experience. See below for how you may qualify.

Required Qualifications:
Option 1:
2.5 years of clerical experience.
 
Option 2:
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical experience.
 
Option 3:
An Associate’s degree or higher AND previous clerical experience.
 
All experience and education combinations that meet the requirements for this position:
 

Combination 1: No High School diploma or college credit; 2.5 years of experience

Combination 2:  High School Diploma or equivalent; 2 years of experience

Combination 3: 30-59 semester or 45-89 quarter credits; 1 year of experience

Combination 4: 60-89 semester or 90-134 quarter credits (AA degree); Some experience



Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment: 

  • Must obtain and maintain a valid driver's license


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Bilingual preferred, being able to read, write, and speak in English and Spanish proficiently.
  • Competency with Microsoft products including Office Suite and Teams
  • Demonstrated ability answering multi-line telephones.
