Marketing and Communications Intern

Job description

Internship opportunity for an ambitious, self-starter to assist in a variety of corporate marketing, communications and brand initiatives.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

+ Assist in coordinating various marketing initiatives including editorial planning, social media, internal & external communications, list building/management, collateral creation, etc.

+ Assist with social media calendar; draft, edit, schedule and post content to social media channels; monitor social media analytics and make recommendations to increase engagement

+ Develop sales flyers, advertisements, event invitations, and other collateral and sales tools

+ Conduct industry-specific research; make recommendations for content and media pitches

+ Assist with content creation for digital, print and other marketing channels

+ Assist in drafting, editing and managing both internal and external newsletters

+ Assist with coordination and planning of special projects, client education events, tradeshows, etc.

+ Collaborate with internal teams on new ideas, direction and methods to enhance corporate marketing and communication efforts

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Over the course of this internship, the Marketing + Communications Intern will gain valuable insight into how a marketing department functions within a company. More specifically, the intern will:

+ Develop an understanding of how a marketing strategy is built, and how that strategy feeds into the overall strategy for the organization

+ Recognize the core attributes and strategic initiatives of a marketing department

+ Learn the importance of brand and messaging consistency across all marketing mediums

+ Assist in developing new processes to streamline the activities of the marketing department

+ Gain on-the-job experience with common marketing tools and software

The intern will also be assigned a capstone project to complete within the timeframe of the internship. The topic of the project will be chosen from a list of topics applicable to marketing and communications. The topics may also pertain to the insurance industry, marketing best practices, audience development and competitive research, to name a few. The project will culminate with a presentation made to members of the Marketing + Communications department, MJ Value Creation Team (Executive Team), as well as key leadership personnel and team members.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail and organizational skills

+ Ability to work independently and with others; prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines

+ Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Products: Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint

+ Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop and InDesign specifically) highly preferred

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

Recently completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field of study (e.g., Marketing/Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Graphic Design, etc.)
