Environmental Science Intern

Job Description:
• Collect river and stormwater outfall samples and analyze collected samples in the field (Seasonal between May and October). Assist with illicit discharge investigations.
• Collect groundwater levels from City monitoring wells. Assist with source water inspections of selected business and industry in the Source Water Protection Area.
• Assist with community education for adults, students, and businesses covering topics including Source Water Protection, Stormwater, Sustianability, and Emergency Response.
• Assist with energy and sustainability activities
• Provide clerical assistance and file maintenance, draft letters and other correspondence using Microsoft Office, and complete errands as necessary.
• Perform visual inspections of facilities within the Source Water Protection Area. Assist staff with facility inspections throughout the city.
 

Education and experience backgrounds (Preferred):
Environmental Science, Biology, Hydrology/Hydrogeology, Geology, Chemistry, Toxicology, Geographic Information Systems, and other science fields.
 

Work Requirements:
• The intern is expected to work no more than 40 hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm) during the summer and has the option to work part-time (around the school schedule) during the school term.
• Intern must have a valid driver's license during employment.
• Intern must be a student to participate in the intern program.
• Interns must be able to traverse rough terrain to reach sampling sites.
• Interns MUST be comfortable working outside in summer, in underbrush, and near moving water.

• US work authorization is required
 

Recommendation
It is recommended for the student to be attending a university/college located in the Dayton region due to work schedule requirements during the school year and summer months.
