Investment Team Fellowship (future CEO possibility)
Hi, hope all is well! We’re looking for Investment Team Fellows to intern on the deal/M&A team (with the possibility of becoming a CEO of a $30m equity-funded platform upon graduation). Ideal start is ASAP and location is flexible/remote. We’re solving for an executional (not finance) rockstar with great references for: work-ethic, being-extremely-organized/high-attention-to-detail/extreme-consistency, kindness and honesty. If interested in helping build and operationalize a world-class investment firm, we’d love to hear from you! Please email hiring@tuckersfarm.com with your resume (including your undergrad GPA, your GMAT/GRE score, and some indication of previous job ranking/performance) with the subject line “Investment Team Fellowship Application / [LAST NAME, FIRST NAME]”. Note: Our process will rely significantly on references (but we will not contact your current employer without your permission, of course).
BACKGROUND
We are a low-profile, value-oriented holding vehicle modeled after Berkshire Hathaway. The founders/investment team is comprised of value investors from Apollo Global Management (~$80bn private equity group) and Viking Global Investors (~$50bn hedge fund). We have various portfolio companies or ‘platforms’ (also known as rollups, aggregations or buy-and-builds). Each platform is capitalized with a long-term equity base and has the sole mandate of compounding cash flows for the long term, primarily through M&A. We have a broad mandate and look for opportunities across industries, geographies and the capital structure, although our primary focus is on rollups.
ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES
Chase deals that are interesting (with guidance from the senior team), take diligent, highly organized notes and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of broker communications; identify important follow-ups and escalate when appropriate
20 hours (~30 calls) a week with business brokers, including a mix of (i) cold-callings and (ii) responding to brokers’ request for introductory calls
Act as a point of contact for incoming calls and emails from brokers, bankers and sellers to address any inquiries
Be an expert on the firm’s background, investment criteria, process, track records, to establish credibility and articulate value proposition
Follow-up with brokers via calls and emails in a timely manner and at a regular cadence
Send calendar meeting invites and schedule meetings between brokers and Teddy’s managers
Partner and collaborate with other Virtual Assistants to assist with administrative tasks and data entry
TRADE-OFFS
(+) You will be an early team member at a high-growth holding company.
(+) You will learn from a highly-successful PE team with a top investing track record.
(+) You will have a big title and significant autonomy and responsibility.
(+) You will have a lot of fun in a scrappy, entrepreneurial environment.
(=) You will be doing a lot of business development work (calling brokers, sellers, etc.).
(-) If joining a large, established company with a big brand is appealing to you or you enjoy structured environments, then this opportunity is not a fit.
QUALIFICATIONS
This is an internship. Although, if stellar performance, intern can become a $30m equity funded platform CEO.
Stellar references: our process relies heavily on ‘off-sheet’ references on past performance. We typically find a way to connect with 5-10 past co-workers and senior people (but we will not contact your current employer without your permission).
Low career turnover: excluding business school (and related internships), less than 3 jobs in the last 5 years.
High ranking in previous job and to a lesser extent, a high undergrad GPA (while not always relevant, we feel there is some signal in GPA, and certainly in past performance).
Highly organized: high attention-to-detail, highly responsive, consistent, and conscientious.
Executional rockstar: superb at to-do-lists, general execution and project management including managing multiple workstreams and teams of people (internal and external, including sellers, lawyers, bankers, accountants, etc.). We need an executional rockstar that keeps the trains running on time and makes sure all the t’s are crossed and i’s are dotted. (To invert, we do not need the genius who likes to go on long-walks and theorize; we need an execution killer focused on GSD).
Solutions-oriented: scrappy, problem-solving, and does not need structure or direction to thrive.
COMPENSATION
We’re selecting for folks who view this trade as a learning-experience/entrepreneurial/fun/big-title-and-growth opportunity vs. a brand name opportunity (which we’re not yet!). Compensation depends on candidate profile, but our target is $30/hr + 2% of EBITDA (e.g. if the candidate generates deals that total $3m of EBITDA that we close on, the candidate gets a $60k bonus ($3m x 2%)).
APPLICATION METHOD
Submit your resume via email to hiring@tuckersfarm.com (please include some indication of previous job ranking/performance, undergrad GPA, GMAT/GRE score) with the subject line “Investment Team Fellowship Application / [LAST NAME, FIRST NAME]”.
