General Description: Responsible for the coordination of Accounting Clerks for improving processes, accounts receivable and compliance of Medicare and Medicaid billing. Employee works under the supervision of the Ambulance Billing Supervisor who assigns duties and responsibilities and delegate's authority as necessary for their accomplishment. Responsible for special projects relating to the section that will require knowledge of interpreting laws and the ability to communicate.
Essential Job Functions: Reviews claims in Rescue Net Software for accuracy and compliance (QA). Reviews medical claims in compliance with insurance carries and codes defined in the ICD10 coding manual based on the medical narrative and enters the information according to the different needs of the various insurance carriers including Medicare, Medicaid, etc. Telephones, writes, or electronically communicates with insurance company to resolves errors in billing and/or filing of appeals. Answers questions, resolves billing staff and customer issues regarding statements and insurance coverage internally and externally. Ability to maintain HIPAA compliance. Trains and enforces billing, company and department policies. Has the ability to back-up Accounting Clerks. Act as back-up in absence of Assistant Ambulance Billing Supervisor. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of medical accounting principles and procedures particularly as they relates to Medicare and Medicaid.
- Ability to apply such knowledge to work problems and errors.
- Ability to multi-task in order to complete projects within deadlines.
- Ability to acquire knowledge of the legal administrative, fair collection practices and HIPAA regulations.
- Ability to operate office machinery to include a computer terminal and a PC (Relevant software includes: Microsoft Office products: Word, Outlook, Excel, and Medical Billing Software).
- Ability to make mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, vendors and the general public.
Minimum Requirements:
PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Associate degree in Accounting or related field and one (1) year of experience in medical billing accounts receivable OR graduation from High School or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma and three (3) years of experience. One (1) year supervisory experience. Experience using a personal computer and Microsoft office products (Word, Outlook and Excel) or related software.
In House Employees: This position qualifies for DAP.
